National Mills Day is an event in the Netherlands and occurs annually on the second Sunday in May. It started off as a single day event but in recent years has expanded to Saturday as well as Sunday, and is now promoted as National Mills Weekend. The event is coordinated by the Wind and Watermills section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Traditionally many preserved wind and watermills that are usually closed to the general public open their doors and offer an insight into the mills workings and history.

In support of National Mills Day,

Stopped by the National Cathedral yesterday to see how the repairs were going from to the earthquake damage. What a monumental task! So many tour groups were in the main Cathedral area that I slipped off to a side chapel to grab an unobstructed image. You can see the ceiling netting still in place while the interior repairs are ongoing.

Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles long and up to half a mile deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River.

Bandipur National Park, Karnataka. - is mostly dry deciduous forest with an abundance of teak on the periphery, the moister core area of Bandipur, has large tracts of fragrant sandalwood and rosewood. However, some summers this area too gets unbearably dry and during these times the animals migrate to the neighbouring wetter and greener Mudumalai Park.

The official sunrise at Yosemite two weeks ago was around 7:15, but sunrise there is somewhat unsual. The entire valley does not wake up to the sun at the same time. When the sun rises over the horizon, only the north side of the valley is lit. It wasn't until around 10 o'clock when the sun peaked over the edge of the south side of the valley wall. The photo above shows the first rays about to light up the entire valley.

An earlier shot when the sun goes down.

Sunrise near Goudriaan, Sunday May 10, 2015. Today is Nationale Molendag (National Millsday), a day in which most mills open their doors for public.

This is the Westermolen, near Goudriaan, a poldermill with a flight of almost 25 metres.

The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London. The glass tower in front is a piece of art called Every Man Remembered, by Mark Humphrey, and will be in the square until the 16th November, when it goes on tour around the UK.

As you can probably see, I edited this photo quite a bit, possibly over-edited it. Does anyone have any tips to improve it?

We visited 4 national parks on our recent trip to the southwest. I think this was our favorite thanks to the beautiful vistas and the great light and skies to make them stand out.

While visiting Glacier National Park, for the first time, this involved a lot of stops and shoot excursions to learn the area, and potential image spots. This was near the western end of Lake McDonald, about 10 miles west of the Lodge.

I wanted to get a better angle on the mountains then what I was getting along the lake shore there at the Lodge area. I did like this spot, but it did invovle about a 75 foot drop that you have to descend in a trail that is really not a trail ... but not too dangerous. This daytime capture with the reflection there I think turned out pretty nice. I did make it back to this spot on the last day as we left the park for sunrise ... those shots to follow.

Took a long drive yesterday to Rondane National Park. This was the first stop we made… Driving with my camera in my lap, it was pretty much just to find something you like, get out of the car and get the shot and then continue driving… ;)) Couldn't think of a better way to spend my 40th birthday! Hope you like it!

The famous John Wesley Powell, a geology professor and one-armed Civil War veteran, described this canyon country as "wilderness of rock" before adventuring himself into the Colorado River in Grand Canyon. This region is mostly now Canyonlands National Park.
