Canyonlands National Park

Southeast Utah

Best Viewed In Lightbox-

This is one of the views I photographed in Canyonlands National Park, the last park I went to on my trip. The day was a little overcast. More images of the parks to come.

From Wikipedia-

Canyonlands National Park is a U.S. National Park located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. It preserves a colorful landscape eroded into countless canyons, mesas, and buttes by the Colorado River, the Green River, and their respective tributaries. Legislation creating the park was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on September 12, 1964.

The park is divided into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the combined rivers—the Green and Colorado—which carved two large canyons into the Colorado Plateau. While these areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, each retains its own character. Author Edward Abbey, a frequent visitor, described the Canyonlands as "the most weird, wonderful, magical place on earth—there is nothing else like it anywhere.

Arches National Park

Eastern Utah

Adjacent To The Colorado River

Best Viewed In Lightbox-

This was the fourth National Park I went to on my trip. My next upload will show one of the arches in the park for which it is famous.

Arches National Park is a US National Park in eastern Utah. The park is adjacent to the Colorado River, 4 miles (6 km) north of Moab, Utah. It is home to over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. It contains the highest density of natural arches in the world.

The park consists of 76,679 acres (119.811 sq mi; 31,031 ha; 310.31 km2) of high desert located in the Colorado Plateau. Its highest elevation is 5,653 feet (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and its lowest elevation is 4,085 feet (1,245 m) at the visitor center. Forty-three arches are known to have collapsed since 1977. The park receives on average 10 inches (250 mm) of rain a year.

Administered by the National Park Service, the area was originally named a National Monument on April 12, 1929. It was redesignated as a National Park on November 12, 1971.

I was up early for a trip to the airport so decided to spend some time in Edinburgh getting some shots at a time when there was not a lot of people about.

National Mills Day is an event in the Netherlands and occurs annually on the second Sunday in May. It started off as a single day event but in recent years has expanded to Saturday as well as Sunday, and is now promoted as National Mills Weekend. The event is coordinated by the Wind and Watermills section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Traditionally many preserved wind and watermills that are usually closed to the general public open their doors and offer an insight into the mills workings and history.

In support of National Mills Day,

Possibly one of the least advertised of the U.S. National Monuments outside of Colorado. My wife and I were lucky to hear about it and stopped by while driving by the city of Grand Junction. A must see if you enjoy spectacular canyons cut deep into sandstone as well as various granite–gneiss–schist, rock formations.

Probably one of the least known but definitely a beautiful natural wonder. My wife and I were recently in Arizona and visited. Chiricahua National Monument is a unit of the National Park System in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona. It is roughly a 2 hours drive from Tucson. The monument was established on April 18, 1924, to protect its extensive hoodoos and balancing rocks. Enjoy the scenery!!!

Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles long and up to half a mile deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River.

this National Park is an amazing place. located in the West of Ireland shows real beauty of this country.

Bandipur National Park, Karnataka. - is mostly dry deciduous forest with an abundance of teak on the periphery, the moister core area of Bandipur, has large tracts of fragrant sandalwood and rosewood. However, some summers this area too gets unbearably dry and during these times the animals migrate to the neighbouring wetter and greener Mudumalai Park.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington, operated under the more familiar name of Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. Construction started September 29, 1907, with a ceremonial address by President Theodore Roosevelt and the laying of the cornerstone. In 1912, Bethlehem Chapel opened for services in the unfinished cathedral, which have continued daily ever since.

While visiting Glacier National Park, for the first time, this involved a lot of stops and shoot excursions to learn the area, and potential image spots. This was near the western end of Lake McDonald, about 10 miles west of the Lodge.

I wanted to get a better angle on the mountains then what I was getting along the lake shore there at the Lodge area. I did like this spot, but it did invovle about a 75 foot drop that you have to descend in a trail that is really not a trail ... but not too dangerous. This daytime capture with the reflection there I think turned out pretty nice. I did make it back to this spot on the last day as we left the park for sunrise ... those shots to follow.

Sunrise near Goudriaan, Sunday May 10, 2015. Today is Nationale Molendag (National Millsday), a day in which most mills open their doors for public.

This is the Westermolen, near Goudriaan, a poldermill with a flight of almost 25 metres.

Took a long drive yesterday to Rondane National Park. This was the first stop we made… Driving with my camera in my lap, it was pretty much just to find something you like, get out of the car and get the shot and then continue driving… ;)) Couldn't think of a better way to spend my 40th birthday! Hope you like it!

The Kyoto National Museum (京都国立博物館 Kyōto Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan) is one of the major art museums in Japan. Located in Kyoto's Higashiyama ward, the museum focuses on pre-modern Japanese and Asian art.

The Kyoto National Museum, then the Imperial Museum of Kyoto, was proposed, along with the Imperial Museum of Tokyo (Tokyo National Museum) and the Imperial Museum of Nara (Nara National Museum), in 1889, and construction on the museum finished in October, 1895. The museum was opened in 1897. The museum went through a series of name changes, in 1900 changing its name to the Imperial Household Museum of Kyoto, and once more in 1924 to the Imperial Gift Museum of Kyoto. The current name, the Kyoto National Museum, was decided upon in 1952.

This is a shot of the National Cemetery located on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Il. The headstone in the lower right is where my Mom and Dad are buried. Also buried there is a part of my oldest brother. But that's a whole other story for a different day. :)

Iceland is still volcanically active and you can easily see rifts and fissures in many areas of the country. In some regions the land is literally drifting apart.

Those big fissures and rifts can be found in several places in Iceland and the nearest ones to Reykjavík is in Thingvellir National Park.

Just back from a holiday in China.

This shot is form Zhangjiajie's National Park (the place where they filmed the floating mountains in Avatar) .

Unfortunately the weather was not on it's best behaviour and this was about as good as it got while we were there.

However, I would like to dedicate this to our guide Bruce ( not Lee ) Tian he loves to share his amazing, unique Zhangjiajie and did the best that he could to show us the most beautiful spots available under the circumstances.

If anyone ever wants to travel into this part of the world, we very highly recommend Bruce!

His help with organisation was outstanding: expert, timely and very personable. He will ensure you get the best shots and make the most of your time in Zhangjiajie National Park.

So if you interested, here is his contact :
