National Mills Day is an event in the Netherlands and occurs annually on the second Sunday in May. It started off as a single day event but in recent years has expanded to Saturday as well as Sunday, and is now promoted as National Mills Weekend. The event is coordinated by the Wind and Watermills section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Traditionally many preserved wind and watermills that are usually closed to the general public open their doors and offer an insight into the mills workings and history.

Probably one of the least known but definitely a beautiful natural wonder. My wife and I were recently in Arizona and visited. Chiricahua National Monument is a unit of the National Park System in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona. It is roughly a 2 hours drive from Tucson. The monument was established on April 18, 1924, to protect its extensive hoodoos and balancing rocks. Enjoy the scenery!!!

This is Þingvellir, our National Park where we declared our independence in 1944 on the 17th. of June!

This was the fourth National Park I went to on my trip. My next upload will show one of the arches in the park for which it is famous.

Arches National Park is a US National Park in eastern Utah. The park is adjacent to the Colorado River, 4 miles (6 km) north of Moab, Utah. It is home to over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. It contains the highest density of natural arches in the world.

The park consists of 76,679 acres (119.811 sq mi; 31,031 ha; 310.31 km2) of high desert located in the Colorado Plateau. Its highest elevation is 5,653 feet (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and its lowest elevation is 4,085 feet (1,245 m) at the visitor center. Forty-three arches are known to have collapsed since 1977. The park receives on average 10 inches (250 mm) of rain a year.

Administered by the National Park Service, the area was originally named a National Monument on April 12, 1929. It was redesignated as a National Park on November 12, 1971.

Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles long and up to half a mile deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River.

While visiting Glacier National Park, for the first time, this involved a lot of stops and shoot excursions to learn the area, and potential image spots. This was near the western end of Lake McDonald, about 10 miles west of the Lodge.

I wanted to get a better angle on the mountains then what I was getting along the lake shore there at the Lodge area. I did like this spot, but it did invovle about a 75 foot drop that you have to descend in a trail that is really not a trail ... but not too dangerous. This daytime capture with the reflection there I think turned out pretty nice. I did make it back to this spot on the last day as we left the park for sunrise ... those shots to follow.

Bandipur National Park, Karnataka. - is mostly dry deciduous forest with an abundance of teak on the periphery, the moister core area of Bandipur, has large tracts of fragrant sandalwood and rosewood. However, some summers this area too gets unbearably dry and during these times the animals migrate to the neighbouring wetter and greener Mudumalai Park.

this National Park is an amazing place. located in the West of Ireland shows real beauty of this country.

The Gesäuse National Park is a national park in the Austrian state of Styria. Located in the mountainous Upper Styrian region, it covers large parts of the Gesäuse range within the Ennstal Alps and the steep water gap of the Enns river between Admont and Hieflau. The area also covers parts of the municipal areas of Johnsbach, Weng, Landl and Sankt Gallen.

The national park currently covers 110 km², with another 15 km² planned. It was established on October 26, 2002.

The highest mountain is Hochtor at 2,369 m (7,772 ft).

We visited 4 national parks on our recent trip to the southwest. I think this was our favorite thanks to the beautiful vistas and the great light and skies to make them stand out.

This is a beautiful stand of longleaf pine trees (Pinus palustris) in the Croatan National Forest, North Carolina, USA. Beneath the trees is a mixture of plants, but its dominated by wiregrass.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington, operated under the more familiar name of Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. Construction started September 29, 1907, with a ceremonial address by President Theodore Roosevelt and the laying of the cornerstone. In 1912, Bethlehem Chapel opened for services in the unfinished cathedral, which have continued daily ever since.

Sunrise near Goudriaan, Sunday May 10, 2015. Today is Nationale Molendag (National Millsday), a day in which most mills open their doors for public.

This is the Westermolen, near Goudriaan, a poldermill with a flight of almost 25 metres.

Birds Park at National Zoo

With wild landscapes and villages steeped in history, Snowdonia National Park is a breathtaking destination for activity holidays, short breaks or days out with family and friends. It’s best known for hiking, but there’s plenty more to enjoy, from waterfalls, lakes and world-class mountain biking to a vintage steam railway that climbs the highest peak in Wales

Situated on the west coast of Britain covering 823 square miles of diverse landscapes, Snowdonia National Park is a living working area, home to over 26,000 people. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in England and Wales, and the largest natural lake in Wales, as well as a wealth of picturesque villages like Betws y Coed and Beddgelert. Snowdonia is an area steeped in culture and local history, where more than half its population speak Welsh.

Mountains, lakes, woodlands, valleys... this is what Snowdonia National Park means to most people, but this area in north west Wales has much more to offer. History and culture are everywhere and the Welsh language is the mother tongue of 58.6% of the population. You're sure to see and hear the Welsh language in use when you visit.

The landscape illustrates the history of the area through Stone Age burial chambers, Roman forts, churches, castles, slate quarries and other industrial works.

The area is also internationally renowned for its geology. In the 19th century investigations into some of the world's oldest rocks took place in Snowdonia.

Hoping everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

This is a shot of the National Cemetery located on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Il. The headstone in the lower right is where my Mom and Dad are buried. Also buried there is a part of my oldest brother. But that's a whole other story for a different day. :)

This is the British Columbia Glacier National Park, not the one in Montana. Last week I explored this park for the first time, although I've driven through it countless times.
