Exchange Square, Manchester, England

A shot taken looking up at the Beetham Tower in Manchester on an overcast day, I've given this a Gothic(ish) treatment to enhance the futuristic dystopian feel.

The Wheel Of Manchester, England.

Tributes laid in St Ann's Square, to those killed and injured in the attack, a week ago today.

Manchester Street,through my eyes.

This is a scan of a photo I took in 1979, when this beautiful station was crumbling, and part of it was used as a car park. There was no fencing and you could walk all around the decaying station and the abandoned tracks. The station was opened in 1880 by the Cheshire Lines Committee and served London and the West Coast. Today it is the Manchester Central convention centre.

Looking down Mosley Street towards St. Peter's Square, Manchester. The weather was a typical winters day in the City centre, cold, miserable, dark and wet. I must have been crazy to stand in the middle of the road taking pictures; it's no wonder I got a few strange looks from the passing public....!

Another rainy day on the streets of Manchester, England. This picture was taken at around 2:10 pm in Albert Square. The Christmas Markets have been dismantled and the Square is being readied for the New Year’s Eve celebrations; but not by these pedestrians passing through.

The tube like tunnel between gmex metrolink and deansgate train stations. Years ago an ex girlfriend of mine used to love this odd tunnel. She was a take that groupie who used to get the train to manchester, then the tram and cross the bridge to hang around outside jason orange's flat. It's been used by magazines for countless fashion shoots. We were heading back from the frank sidebottom tribute gig when I snapped this.

Canals were at the heart of the development of industrial Manchester. They enabled coal and raw materials to be carried right to the heart of the city and finished goods to be transported away easily.

The Bridgewater Canal, one of the earliest modern canals, ran into Manchester. Later, other canals radiated outwards from the area and the Ship Canal brought sea-going vessels close to the city centre.

The waterways of the area are now chiefly used for recreation and leisure. Canals which had once been disused and neglected are being restored. The waterways of Manchester and Salford are playing a vital part in the regeneration of the area.

Up to Manchester today for the British Dental Association Conference at Manchester Central. Always a good venue and a bit of processing to make a different image.

A few random pictures from Manchester taken yesterday

I have no idea what this old railway bridge is called in Castlefield, Manchester, or why the great girders are at an acute angle to the brick buttresses...or why the mixtures of colours on the brick, but in the strong early morning I saw so much character in the construction

New council flats and shops being built in Polygon Street.

The pictured security guard obviously had many things to do. Foremost in his thoughts however was "who is this guy crawling around on the floor with a camera in his hands and how can I get rid of him?"
