A tiny little Mush Mallow seed pod in the late Autumn afternoon light. The seed pods of so many flowering plants & trees are absolutely as beautiful as the flowers which precede them.

2-3 inches of rain are in the forecast for us today. Too late to save the Fall foliage colors for this year, but really important for the root systems of all the perennial plants as we head towards frozen ground and Winter.

I think, it's Malva moschata (musk mallow).

Malva moschata is a species of Malva native to Europe and southwestern Asia, from Spain north to the British Isles and Poland, and east to southern Russia and Turkey.

It has been introduced to and become naturalised in several areas with temperate climates away from its native range, including Scandinavia, New Zealand, and North America.

It is often grown as an ornamental plant for its attractive scented flowers, produced for a long period through the summer. Several cultivars have been selected for variation on flower colour, including 'Rosea' with dark pink flowers.

Pink flowers on plant in the family Malvaceae, showing deeply cut leaves

The 'Cruiseship' in Groningen housing offices of the Dutch internal revenue services and also general student affairs (see my www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/25990331244/in/photoli...) has a wonderful garden and a pleasant restaurant with outdoor seating too.

A bit early for lunch with friends, I walked in the 'wilder' section of the garden contemplating a variety of insects taking in their own sustenance.

Here on prettily pink Malva moschata, Musk Mallow, is a Honeybee. Quite the pollinator, she. But she's not collecting that stuff for her Family. I watched her for a while, and there was no filling of her corbicula. Anyway, filling those baskets with pollen means that those particular pollen grains will not be part of the cycle of flower pollination. Regardless, Honeybee is covered with that Fine Stuff and will carry it hither and thither no doubt to sundry pistils.

But what she's doing is licking and sucking up nectar; look at that pretty pink 'tongue'. Fascinating yet again, but then I had to hurry off for my own conimbibitions, to coin a word.
