International Space Station going over our lighthouse tonight. -5* when I went down. 48 second exposure.

St Annes Beach, Christmas Day

Okay, this isn't the ISS but it sure

looks like something straight out of a SCI-FI movie!

Inside a massive, closed warehouse. One could spend days wandering this cavernous space. After closing, this building was intentionally left to rot with the plans of demolition. Workers are slowly removing valuable equipment but there is a long journey ahead with the environmental cleanup of the entire property.

This is what happens when you coordinate your Yosemite stargazing with the flight schedule of the International Space Station shown on heavens-above.com.

This 2 minute shot taken from Cook's Meadow. The trees silhouetted on the right are a bit of an illusion as they are at the east end of Cook's Meadow and not on the distant ridge line near Half Dome. North dome is silhouetted on the left opposite from Half Dome.

The light seen from the ISS comes from reflected sunlight, which means the viewing times for the ISS are always just after sunset or just before sunrise. Trajectory info on heavens-above.com indicated the ISS would be flying from the north to the east at around 5:50am. Including Half Dome in the scene just seemed like the right thing to do. It was only a matter of picking which meadow to take the picture from. And having a Yosemite meadow all to yourself before the sunrise is quite a special thing in itself.

The Eagle has crashlanded....

I've been going through some of my previous images and using new techniques I've learned to improve them.

This is one of my favourites of the Space Station pass because I'd gone to a lot of trouble to get it. It meant staying at the top of a very cold and windy Rivington Pike, Bolton until it got dark. I knew the space station was due so I set the camera up. There was also a first quarter moon, which I hid behind the monument. I also lit up the monument with an LED torch to avoid it looking like a silhouette. I did, however get caught out by the timing and I ended up hastily holding the shutter open with the interval timer control when I'd really meant to stack the exposures. This meant that the overall image was rather overexposed. It took a fair bit of work in Photoshop CS3 to rescue the image and I don't think I did too bad a job .

Compared to the previous image I also used the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye Hemi plug in which goes some way to correcting the barrell distortion, but at the same time keeping the fisheye look.

A 30 second exposure that I took as the ISS passed over a nut tree late Tuesday evening. Jupiter is shining through a gap in between the tree branches (but not easy to see!).

My view to the sky is not what we call ideal, this photo is the undeniable proof :) ISS went right through that tree unfortunately, but is shined so bright still can be seen.

The ISS Epigram is a independent ship operated by a group of journalists and self-styled truth seekers; the crew of the Epigram work throughout the Outer Rim. Although the human population of the Core Worlds prefer not to think about the reaches of space; the dangerous species, the wars, the complex politics and yet there is demand for information. The courageous and often foolhardy ISS Epigram crew provide this information.

The ship itself is a very small capital-ship; a half-corvette. Quick and nimble, she is armed with all manner of counter-measures and tricks to evade enemies. The imaginative engineers have often utilised the powerful broadcast-transmission-scanner to scramble the targeting of belligerents, to fool and mesmerise them as cover for an escape.

My first ever attempt at a composite image. 8 15-second photos, stitched together in Photoshop (post edit in Lightroom)

I managed to nip out to catch the ISS, and inadvertently at the same time a Satellite flare (above the moon)

Superb clear night outside...

I shot at f13, which is much more than I would normally use to get the star effect on the moon..

6x 30 second shots
