Beautiful morning in the Himalayas ...
There's a cold, quiet and amazing magical first morning rays light turns mountains into the beautiful warm colors. A few meters of steep output and we are at the finish. On the Top of Gokyo Ri at an altitude of 5,357 m.
The beauty of the Himalayas captivated us. We could not resist and again this year we set out on a journey into the world's highest mountains. There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the local sky-high peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, turquoise lakes, rivers flowing through deep canyons, picturesque valleys and also smiling and humble people.

The majestic Kinner Kailash Range seen from Kalpa in Kinnaur,Himachal Pradesh.
This range has the Kinner Kailash peak (6349 m) which is believed to be one of the abodes of Lord Shiva. This is not to be confused with Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet.
The trek to the Kinner Kailash peak which is undertaken by hundreds of devotees every year is one of the toughest treks in Himachal.

I am back home. After the crowds, the pollution and the hustle and bustle of Delhi I am really, really glad to be back to the silence and peace of the mountains.

Another favourite among the photographs I took from the window of the plane during my flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong. Taken shortly after sunrise, I judged from the plane's onscreen map that this is the northern edge of the Himalayas. I was struck by the contrast between the indications of human life at the bottom right of the frame, and the primal majesty of the mountains, so near and so different.
More photographs I've taken from the windows of planes here.

We were mountain trekking in the early hours of the day, and it was a steep climb. Rested in between the climb and just at this point the view was breathtaking. Day break with bright clear skies and the whole valley with the river flowing was in view. Seeing the grand natural spectacle, it was a feeling of pure admiration for it and just how small we felt in front of it !
This is about @6000Ft. Just to have a size perspective, at the bottom left of the view is a small town, and the mini spikes on the ground at left are the power transmission towers.
I wish i had a pure wide angle lens to do justice to the view.
Next time :)
I have not been able to go out with my camera at all lately so I am uploading old shots at the moment.
I had taken this shot at an altitude of around 14000 feet near Chandra Taal (Moon Lake) in Lahaul valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh,India during a trip in September 2014.This was the best journey we have ever undertaken and I go back again and again to see these photos. The man to the right of the shot is my husband Sanjay.:-)
I am back from Kolkata my friends.I had a good break but I missed Flickr.:-)Wish you all a very Happy New Year once again.
When my son was here in Shimla we went for a picnic one weekend. Some 25 kms from Shimla, just beyond Fagu ,we noticed a dirt track going up the mountainside. We drove up and found a wonderful picnic spot with a magnificient view.I took this shot from there.:-)

The Himalaya Range is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. By extension, it is also the name of the massive mountain system which includes the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and a host of minor ranges extending from the Pamir Knot. The name is from Sanskrit himālaya, a tatpurusa compound meaning "the abode of snow" (from hima "snow", and ālaya "abode"; see also Himavat).
Together, the Himalayan mountain system is the planet's highest and home to the world's highest peaks: the Eight-thousanders, including Mount Everest and K2. To comprehend the enormous scale of this mountain range consider that Aconcagua, in the Andes, at 6,962 m, is the highest peak outside Asia, while the Himalayan system includes over 100 mountains exceeding 7,200 meters.
The Himalayan system, which includes outlying subranges, stretches across six countries: Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan. They are the source of three of the world's major river systems, the Indus, the Ganga-Brahmaputra, and the Yangtze. Approximately 1.3 billion people live in the drainage basin of the Himalayan rivers.
Tibet is a plateau region in Central Asia. With an average elevation of 4,900 metres (16,000 ft), it is the highest region on Earth and is commonly referred to as the "Roof of the World."
Geographically, UNESCO and Encyclopædia Britannica consider Tibet to be part of Central Asia, while some academic organizations consider it part of South Asia.
Tibet is located on the Tibetan Plateau, the world's highest region. The world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, is on Nepal's border with Tibet. The average altitude is about 3,000 m in the south and 4,500 m in the north.
Several major rivers have their source in the Tibetan. These includeYangtze, Yellow River, Indus River, Mekong, Brahmaputra River, Ganges, Salween and the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Tibet has numerous high-altitude lakes referred to in Tibetan as tso or co. These include Lake Manasarovar, Namtso, Pangong Tso, Yamdrok Lake, Siling Co, Lhamo La-tso, Lumajangdong Co, Lake Puma Yumco, Lake Paiku, Lake Rakshastal, Dagze Co and Dong Co.
Soon we are going back to Himalayas. It is to be for longer and higher than ever before, so a bit afraid of AMS. But also sooooooooo excited!
To put myself in a good mood, I'm going through our photos from the last trip... We hope to see even more views like this one (*), so watch this space!
If you like my photos, feel free to join me on Facebook!
(*) - This mountain is one of the better known for its shape, although not very high, so I will let others to guess its name... I know at least one friend on Flickr who should know this mountain ;-)
