"...A scar signifies past pain, a wound that did not heal as it ought. But it testifies, too, to survival..."

"The Israeli novelist David Grossman’s impassioned account of what he observed on the West Bank in early 1987—not only the misery of the Palestinian refugees and their deep-seated hatred of the Israelis but also the cost of occupation for both occupier and occupied—is an intimate and urgent moral report on one of the great tragedies of our time. The Yellow Wind is essential reading for anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of Israel today."

Recently, Grossman won Man Booker International prize for his book 'A Horse Walks Into a Bar' (which personally, i like less than many of his books)

"It was at the outskirts of the world that the Old Things accumulated, like driftwood round the edges of the sea."

"It was November--the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul."

L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables (Penny Books))

“Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!”

"Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it, a jealous, possessive love that grabs at what it can. But life leaps over oblivion lightly, losing only a thing or two of no importance, and gloom is but the passing shadow of a cloud..."

Yann Martel (Life of Pi)

Back to the glorious gold and blue mirror that is Otaki Beach...

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference."

Robert Frost

Few weeks ago I decided to clean and organize my personal library .. well that wasn't easy..

After 4 days of cleaning , I kept around 150 books and sent away around 200 ..

The next step was to make some sort of recored or a list .. I'm finally done you can see my personal library at ..

Adding English books was a piece of cake ..just enter the ISBN and you are done , all of the book's details are there including the cover but with the Arabic books I had to add most of them manually .. so typing and photographing the cover needed some time .. but finally mission accomplished ..

Update : I've just bought 3 new books today .. so I have 153 books now .. ;)

"In a place far away from anyone or anywhere, I drifted off for a moment."

Haruki Murakami (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle)

"It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing."

"What is the meaning of life? That was all- a simple question; one that tended to close in on one with years, the great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead, there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark; here was one."

Virginia Woolf (To the Lighthouse)

The light reveals itself from behind a passing cloud...

"In dreams you don't need to make any distinctions between things. Not at all. Boundaries don't exist. So in dreams there are hardly ever collisions. Even if there are, they don't hurt. Reality is different. Reality bites. Reality, reality."

Haruki Murakami (Sputnik Sweetheart)

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun."

Jon Krakauer (Into the Wild)

Beyond Kapiti Island, visible here on the Horizon amidst the clouds, the next landmass is Australia; 1400 miles or 2250 Km away....

"You sit at the edge of the world,

I am in a crater that's no more.

Words without letters

Standing in the shadow of the door.

The moon shines down on a sleeping lizard,

Little fish rain from the sky.

Outside the window there are soldiers,

steeling themselves to die.

The drowning girl's fingers

Search for the entrance stone, and more.

Lifting the hem of her azure dress,

She gazes --

at Kafka on the shore"

Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)

Nothing but endless blue sky and azure ocean...

Wide Open Series #2

"Everything changes. Everything is temporary, except for the sky. When you find yourself caught up in the horrors or heroes of a lifetime, look up. Don't look down. That which is beneath our feet is liquid, but the sky, the sky is solid, constant, ever ready and ever hopeful that the sun will rise in the morning and the moon will rise at night. They don't really set, you know. They're always rising, just rising for someone else."

I read 2 or 3 books a week so I think it's about time I started using some of them as inspiration for my photos. I'm currently reading The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster for my online reading group. So far it seems to have a lot of interesting points about language in it but it's not gripping me. Therefore I decided to use it to make a cityscape out of books.

Also submitting to MSH for: A Picture Worth a Thousand Words, though there's a bit more than 1000 words in all those books.

A year ago today I was hating make-up.

"Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back. That's part of what it means to be alive. But inside our heads - at least that's where I imagine it - there's a little room where we store those memories. A room like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in awhile, let in fresh air, change the water in the flower vases."

Haruki Murakami (Kafka On The Shore)
