I started building a PVR this weekend.

I'm still waiting for the Hauppauge nova t-500 to arrive from Amazon, but I've got the rest of the stuff.

I've been checking out Mythbuntu (mythtv with ubuntu), freevo, geexbox, boxee etc. - possibly will go with Mythbuntu, as that's got pretty much everything I need.

Hardware specs:

Antec Microfusion 350 case

2gb Corsair 800mhz DDR2 Ram

www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=xrR7wto9Z5BL42aU&conte...

320gb WD Sata HD

Sony Sata DVD+R

I already had the Ram, Hard Drive & DVD Writer, so it set me back about the amount as the cheap & nasty PVR crud you get from Comet or Argos.

It's my Xmas TV project, so mythbuntu may be ditched in favour of other solutions - if Windows 7 + Media Center is a better fit, I'll go with that - assuming there's no DRM crap getting in my way.

Media center for Linux. Pretty slick but still a bit buggy. Next up for testing: LinuxMCE, Enna, XBMC, GeeXboX and who knows what else.

And this is when I booted the second time with the hard disk connected: it went right past POST and started booting geexbox. Shibby!!!
