"Do not be small minded. Do not pray for gourds and pumpkins from God, when you should be asking for pure love and pure knowledge to dawn within every heart."

A pallet of gourds for sale at a farmers market at Strawberry Hill SC

Painted Gourds made into Folk Art bird houses by local craftsmen in North Carolina, colorful and very cheerful.

Between Blanchester and Cowan Lake there are a number of farms selling gourds and pumpkins. There are so many different kinds and shapes, it's hard to choose. We buy around a dozen for the holiday displays our granddaughter loves to see and play with. And at three she is good at picking only they came in purple and pink.

Decorative gourds outside the supermarket! They were in a mound on a display outside the store, almost a pyramid. The image has created a flattening effect, so there seems to be even more than there actually was.

Today is day 123 of Project 365 (Monday).

A colorful pile of gourds in the winding medina of Morocco's blue city, Chefchaouen.

Just amazing the art in the roadside displays. The area from Wilmington to Blanchester, Ohio has many pumpkin farms. The hard part is which to buy.

My husband was assembling some new gourds for the Purple Martins when I noticed the "eyes". I arranged them for the glance.

Der Herbst beginnt und damit auch die Zeit der Kürbisse. Es ist doch immer wieder überraschend, in welchen Formen und (teils kräftigen) Farben abseits des orangenen Halloween-Kürbisses Kürbisse wachsen.

Development of artifacts and symbols associated with Halloween formed over time encompassing customs of medieval holy days as well as contemporary cultures. The souling practice of commemorating the souls in purgatory with candle lanterns carved from turnips, became adapted into the making of jack-o'-lanterns.[11] In traditional Celtic Halloween festivals, large turnips were hollowed out, carved with faces and placed in windows to ward off evil spirits.[5] The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America where pumpkins are both readily available and much larger – making them easier to carve than turnips.[12] Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their doorstep after dark. The American tradition of carving pumpkins preceded the Great Famine period of Irish immigration[13] and was originally associated with harvest time in general, not becoming specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 1800s.[14][15]

Sorry, I can't think of anything else right now. ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭

I'm always amazed at how many different colours, shapes & textures pumpkins, squash & gourds come in! Here's a colourful display! Best viewed large!

Gourds and Onions for sale at the roadside markets on Lac Nzala on the road just beyond the Middle Atlas Mountains on the way to Fez. I'm almost certain that the locals call these vegetables Slaouia, which are bottle-neck gourds, a favorite vegetable in Tagine dishes.
