Another shot from Brighton.
I'm now back from a fabulous trip, albeit too short, trip to London, England. I'll probably keep dipping into the trip shots for my next few posts... ah, the memories.
TechNote: This is a combo HDR shot.
Part of the 'Avebury, Stonehenge and associated areas UNESCO World Heritage Site', managed by both the National Trust and English Heritage, Avebury has long been overshadowed by Stonehenge. But access to its showy neighbour is now (rightly) pretty restricted and that makes accessible Avebury all the more charming. I took this shot to show the pattern of the stones and the Neolithic earthworks around them, one of which I am standing on, but it also shows that the village of Avebury with its fine Manor house, church and pretty houses, lies within the circles and several roads run through them. You can wander freely, touch the stones, though climbing is discouraged, and leave a crystal in a crevice to charge (if that's what lights your candle.)
Whitby Abbey architecture, the east end ruins stands almost to its original height and is an excellent example of Early English Gothic architecture. The ruins sit above the small fishing village of Whitby which is also famous for being a central location in Bram Stokers "Dracula". North Yorkshire, England, UK. Sony A6000
Just love the shapes and textures exposed by the low tide on the causeway over to St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, England.
I like this road scene. I was attracted by the sun rolling over the fields opposite, farming has been practised on these chalk hills for centuries, including by my grandmother's family. But we were walking down a much older and much more mysterious path, West Kennet Avenue, an double row of Neolithic standing stones that lead from the circles at Avebury to the Sanctuary to the south. And the road? Well that provided another side to Wiltshire, the modern one. England
Looe is a small coastal town and fishing port in south-east Cornwall, England.
Back from a fabulous holiday in England visiting family and friends, and have now had an opportunity to go through my photos. My trip included a few days in Devon and Cornwall with three of my girlfriends.
It is 17 weeks today until we begin our next overseas adventure. These photos are from our trip in 2009 and were taken when we spent the day in Hertford.
A river runs through it, and I can't resist taking photos of rivers. This was taken on a walk through a park in England on my last visit there.

Tintagel castle ruin, not much remains of the medieval architecture of this ancient stronghold despite it's rumoured connections to the legend of King Arthur. Cornwall, England, UK. Sony Nex3
With temperatures in England higher than those across the Mediterranean during the last week or so, English fields respond with exposions of colours across the countryside; in this case oilseed rape fields. The melodies of skylarks rain down on onlookers from the big sky and there is a perceptible smile on people's faces.
