Our Earth World is in greater peril than ever, but there is also unprecedented opportunity to build a new future. Earth Day has the power to bring about historic advances in climate policy, renewable energy and green jobs and catalyze millions who make personal commitments to sustainability - A Billion Acts of Green™ – mobilizing the power of people to create change by taking small steps in our homes, our schools and our businesses that add up to an enormous collective action.
Earth Day is a pivotal opportunity for people, corporations, and governments to join together to create a global green economy. Our coordinated efforts now will be recognized by future generations as a turning point.

This year is also celebrated the Earth Day, Earth Day, scheduled for Saturday 22 April. This is a very important date, born to support the formation of a new environmental consciousness and the preservation of the planet Earth.
The Earth Day is celebrated by the United Nations on April 22, a month after the Spring Equinox, and sees the participation of 175 countries. Its origin dates back to 1970, when it was celebrated for the first time by the pacifist activist John McConnel. The university movement then became an educational and informative event to evaluate environmental issues, pollution, destruction of ecosystems and conservation of natural resources.

"Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world"

Twilight shot taken from the summit of mount Thabor (3.178 m), Vallée Étroite, Hautes-Alpes, France.
Being the weather conditions very clear above the sea of clouds, it's easily recognizable the typical greyish-blue band on the horizon, which is the shadow cast by planet Earth itself on its atmosphere.
A commun atmospheric phenomenon that can be seen twice a day, also from the plain, usually during the twilight hours, near sunset and sunrise (as in this case).

NASA archive image, relase date October 17, 2000.
This true-color image shows North and South America as they would appear from space 35,000 km (22,000 miles) above the Earth. The image is a combination of data from two satellites. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Terra satellite collected the land surface data over 16 days, while NOAA’s Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) produced a snapshot of the Earth’s clouds.

I raced down to the dock on my bike to catch the new light after laying awake for hours in my sleeping bag waiting for a glimpse of sun to filter through my tent. Shortly after this shot was taken i got in my kayak enjoying the whole lake to myself...except for haunting call of a lonesome Loon. I have to remind myself peace like this exists whenever i turn on the news these days. I'm so thankful to be living in Alberta.

What Is It About A Solitary Tree That Captures One's Gaze and Imagination?
No matter where you live, you have seen one. And I'm betting when you did, you allowed your gaze to linger for awhile. If you are a camera bug, you may even have pulled over while driving down some road, and shot a picture or two. Sometimes it is a majestic, old oak tree in the middle of a farmer's field...surrounded by acres of plowed field. Why did they leave just that one tree? Surely there must have been many others at some time.
A forest is lush. Dense. But while a forest has its own charms, it can sometimes seem impenetrable. Uninviting, even. A lone tree holds a completely different kind of allure. It is somehow mysterious. It's almost magnetic, especially when the cleared land around it is expansive. You ask yourself how that one tree, and only that tree, managed to escape the axe and survive. You sometimes may even feel compelled to walk across the field to look at it from a closer perspective. Stand in its shade. It provokes contemplation. The trees in a stand of woods lose their individuality and become almost indistinguishable from one another, at least until fall. But a lonesome tree? It calls out to you. "Look at me. I'm still here!"

Happy Earth Day Everyone!!
Well... after much planning and preparation... the day that we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived!!
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing today (22nd April 2009), we’re inviting everyone to take part in the Earth Mosaic 2009 project. Please take a photograph of any part of the world around you and upload it to the Earth Mosaic project website, anytime before the 30th April 2009. Once we have received all your uploads, we will assemble all the images into a huge tiled mosaic, showing the world map with all its oceans and continents.
Please Note: The image shown here is nothing at all like the world map image that we will use for our mosaic... and all the tiled images that make up this mosaic are from my own collection.

Earth Elemental
An ancient form of golem, forged from the primal essence of the earth itself. Earth elementals are mindless drones, created and controlled by powerful magics. Nearly indestructible, these stone giants prowl the slopes of the Gelder Peaks. Most are long forgotten relics from a bygone era. Forgotten eons ago by their masters who now inhabit the same soil from whence the elemental was raised.
*** Just having more fun with Chima joints! I am particularly pleased with how this guy turned out. The design is all mine; however, conceptually he is based off of art from Guild Wars 2.
Please feel free to leave comments! :D
Rendering of the Earth. This was done using new experimental C++ code that is being put together as a possible successor to jDem846. It has improved algorithms and now integrates OpenGL for hardware acceleration. This new code is considerably faster and much more memory efficient than the Java-based project. Elevations are exaggerated by about 50 times to better visualize terrain features, and cloud and atmospheric elevations are rather arbitrary.
Sources:
- Elevation Data is derived from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 30-arcsecond data (SRTM30), the Radarsat Antarctic Mapping Project Digital Elevation Model Version 2 (RAMP2), and the GEBCO_08 bathymetric raster from General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans.
- Satellite imagery provided by the NASA's Earth Observatory Blue Marble project.
- Global clouds are from the NASA Visible Earth catalog.
