The Dixie Belle is moored by the beautiful London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The old paddle wheeler takes tourists around the island to see the lake.

Stopped by the old Dixie Inn near Barstow, California my first night back in the Mojave last week, with much better conditions for shooting than when I visited back in 2011.
Night, 3/4 moon, ambient mercury vapor light, pink-gelled strobe and CTO-gelled X2000 flashlight.
This was the shot from the Dixie Inn that made it worth the barking dog for me. After doing a few lighting tests, I noticed the projection that was occurring on the left side of the building. That ended up becoming the focal point of my mission to photograph this night photographer favorite.
Lit with the Protomachine LED 2, the night after October's full moon.

The construction of this bridge has been somewhat controversial. $39 million dollars later some see an eyesore. I see art. At times I think that our duty as artists is to find the inner essence of beauty and share that with the world. They cannot see like we do, so we MUST share the good when we find it.
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. I will finally have time to catch up on my favorite artists here. Looking forward to seeing the new work.
Here is an article with a little background.

This is an old drive in theater on the north side of Dayton Ohio. The sign has a really unique design. I think it's the only one around here that's still in use.

Dixie, who belongs to my brother and sister-in-law, is a beautiful, pampered kitty who whines every time she opens her mouth. She wants nothing to do with any other cat. She cracks me up. (Needless to say, she does no housework; the broom is merely a prop. :) )
I've stopped and photographed the Dixie Terminal building before. Today was the first time I went inside. What a great place!
After I took a few shots in the lobby, someone pointed out the balcony, which was amazing!
Dixie Inn, part of an abandoned motel and service station sandwiched between the old and "new" Highway 58.
Lit by full moon and 3 pops of a red-gel'd flash at various locations inside.
Dixie is a 5 month old French Bulldog. Trying to photograph this little bundle of energy outside with her mom was very challenging - especially since I am not that familiar with my new camera. We brought her inside and put her on this chaise lounge which slowed her down a little - long enough for me to get this photo - although I thought my shutter speed was 1/200 not 1/20!
