Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford

Built in 1883, torn down 1931, reconstructed 2000.

This is the third Christ Church Cathedral built in Victoria BC Canada. The first was built in 1856 and by 1869 the congregation had outgrown the original building. The second one was built in 1872 and by 1929 it also had become too small with a growing population in the capital city of BC. The first two Cathedral's were wooden structures, however, by 1929 the decision was made to build a new Cathedral from stone, which is the present day Cathedral and likely the last one to be built in my lifetime.

This is both the cathedral for the diocese of Oxford, and the chapel for the college of Christ Church. It's one of the smallest cathedrals in England (but for a chapel it is really quite big). The church actually predates the college it is now a part of. It used to be the church belonging to St Frideswide's Priory, and was built in the second half of the 12th century in Romanesque style (you might note the Gothic Perpendicular style of the ceiling - the church has had some remodelling).

The Crown Jewel of Upper Canada Village: Christ Church all lit up for the final event of Alight At Night in Morrisburg, Ontario. Actually, this was a special occasion open to the public free of charge. The first snowshoe race to be held here at night. 144 runners with headlamps ran through the village and surrounding parkland on either a 5 or 10 kilometer course. The conditions were brisk @ - 10C with a strong west wind. Further images of the runners to follow.

George Pace's reinforced concrete arch surmounted by Sir Jacob Epstein's aluminium statue of 'Christ in Majesty' which stands between the Nave and the Choir.

Notice Christ's 'hands' ? No, not on the statue itself, but the shadows just above the nearest two arches. Clever lighting or what ?

Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, British Columbia is the cathedral church of the Diocese of British Columbia of the Anglican Church of Canada.

One of the things about Vancouver being such a young city, relatively speaking, is that it is sadly lacking in old architecture. Christ Church Cathedral is one of our oldest buildings and it was built in 1895. Not that old really. A very nice building though.

Christ Church college, Oxford. This is leaving the Peckwater Quadrangle (also known as Peck) and entering the Great Quadrangle (also known as Tom Quad). The Great Quadrangle was actually began already by Thomas Wolsey (dead 1530) who had an idea of turning it into a proper cloister - but it was not finished until the 17th century.

At the college of Christ Church, Oxford university. It was founded in 1546 by Henry VIII, on the grounds of the priory of St Frideswide (which had been dissolved in the 1520s and where cardinal Wolsey had tried to establish the Cardinal college - which all came to nothing when he fell from royal grace. The church of the priory has actually survived and is now the Christ Church Cathedral!). The name of the college in Latin is Ædes Christi, and the full name in English of the college is: 'The Dean, Chapter and Students of the Cathedral Church of Christ in Oxford of the Foundation of King Henry the Eighth'. It is the second wealthiest college in Oxford.

The college is featured in Brideshead revisited by Evelyn Waugh, and parts of the Harry Potter-movies were filmed here.

The view of this famous statue in Rio de Janeiro, from Sugarloaf Mountain, was obscured by cloud for much of the morning, when suddenly, the clouds parted long enough to capture this scene.

Rio Janerio has been awarded the Football World Cup in 2014, and the Olympic Games for 2016.

ive wanted to revisit here for so long and with it being a clear sky again last night i decided to travel back. the sky is amazing here as there is hardly any light for miles around.

really happy with how the moon rose mid stack to light the subject a little. to add to this i did a subtle lighting shot to bring out the brick details.
