(California dreamin') on such a winter's day
Drove to Mt Wilson on Sat morning to do an Autumn shoot. Some nice colour around, but another week or so should be a lot better. Hope you like California Dreamin'. Cheers, Mike

California Landscapes 2008
Wrights Lake, a small alpine lake about 30 minutes west of South Lake Tahoe.
Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. El Dorado National Forest. California.
Well, I'm driving down this windy road going from the coast to the boring interior of CA. It's just past dawn, and literally, I see this barn emerge from around the corner. Now here's the cool part. It's totally on private property. I park on the other side of the road and open my truck to get my tripod and camera ready. I look at the house, about 100 yards from where the barn is. I don't see lights on or movement.
The gate is open to the barn.
My camera ready, I get back in my car, put it in reverse, cross the road and reverse up the dirty path to the barn, open trunk, set up camera, and do four 9 exposure shots in a row, and then the horse walks over, which is good, but it won't stop moving. 4 of my shots have him blurred. So I picked up some hay, and held it up and shook it, hit my trigger, snapped off 9 exposures, and it came out clear. Put it all in the trunk and sped off, no more than 2 minutes total.
No old man with shotgun.
Can't really see the horse staring at me unless you view this photo large
Ok, so the foreground is nothing special, but this is the first time I captured the Milky Way (prepare for more!!). I wanted to try this in nevada but it was too cloudy, same for San Francisco. So we stopped somewhere along the highway in California and found a dark spot. It was SO cool to see this with my bare eyes!
Staying in SF for a couple more days and then I'm off to LA.
One of my favorite things about living in Northern California is being able to walk outside and see these magnificent Oaks.
Last winter we received record snow & rainfall. Yosemite waterfalls like in this shot were roaring by springtime. So far we are on course to one of the State's driest winter season. But this place will still be beautiful in any condition.
As I tell my photo buddies, " in Yosemite, you'll never go wrong."
A reflection of the last bit of light shines in the shorline at Abalone Cove in Palos Verdes, California.

California Ghost Town
This is my another impression of Bodie California ghost town. A town frozen in time.
After a long day working the claims, the miners would head for the bars and the red light district to spend their earnings.. The mixture of money, gold and alcohol would often prove fatal. It is said that there was a man killed every day in Bodie. Presumably, the undertaker never had a slow day. ( Hell on Earth )
Morning lighting at this high vantage point after leaving Lake Tahoe area and heading towards Yosemite National Park. Pretty open country.
Where heaven meets earth.
DIrections. Drive north on Highway . Turn right, straight up into the mountians about 200 miles north of Santa Barbara. Drive thru the clouds until the light shineth into the darkness! Turn off engine...listen to the quiet! ......................
Brought to you by Kodachrome!
This is Burney Falls, one of my favorite spots in Northern California. One stop among many on my current travels.
Thanks so much for all of the recent comments and favorites. I'm on the road now, but will get to all of your work as soon as I can. Happy Waterfall Wednesday, everyone!
I captured this unique shot while driving through Beverly Hills, CA sightseeing (in the passenger seat).
This shot is a little bit older but I haven't had the chance to upload it so far.
I used a B&W 10 stop ND filter for this.
The California towhee (Melozone crissalis) is a bird of the family Emberizidae, native to the coastal regions of western Oregon and California in the United States and Baja California Sur in Mexico.
The taxonomy of this species has been debated. At the higher level, some authors place the towhees in the family Fringillidae. Within the group, there has been debate about whether the distinction between this species and the similar canyon towhee (Melozone fuscus) should be at the specific or subspecific level. The two populations are quite isolated from each other, and molecular genetics seems to have settled the matter in favour of two distinct species for the present. On the other hand there seems to be little distinction between the northern and Baja Californian populations within M. crissalis.
