The little town of Trinidad on the northern California coast is a great place
to stop for lunch and breathe deeply.
We enjoyed the sweeping ocean view, after a beautiful drive through the redwoods
on our way home to BC.
Well not really lost, but taking some fun back roads in northern California can lead to some pretty sights in the morning.

The contrast present on a bright day at Mono Lake is a bit of a challenge. This image was created from 5 RAW images ranging in exposure from -2 to +2. NIK Software was used to process and assemble the final image from the 5 RAW images.

Well, It's not what I usually associate with rocking out in California, but the variety of color and textures on the beaches at low tide was really quite amazing!
I appreciate my wife allowing me to take endless pictures on our walks along the beaches near Santa Barbara. My son, who accompanied us a few times suggested she take up poetry! What better ways to document the beauty around us than through a poem or a photograph?

People look on from the Pier just as the sun has set into the Pacific Ocean, as seen from Huntington Beach, California.
Mount Shasta is a volcano located at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, California. At 14,179 feet, it is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California. Mount Shasta is not connected to any nearby mountain and dominates the northern California landscape. On a clear winter day snowy Mount Shasta can be seen from the floor of the Central Valley 140 miles (230 km) south. The mountain has attracted the attention of poets, authors, presidents ... and MelRoseJ.

Sorry for the influx of uploads folks...
This has been sitting in my archives for the longest time since I can't decide if I like it or not... Blend of 2 exposures for the sky and the sea stack at the background. This feels like there's too much sand in the fg, though I tried to break it up by those water trails. Would've loved the splash to be a little more isolated as opposed to being overwhelmed by the big sea stack at the back.
Chose to shoot this at a pretty fast shutter to get that splash, and in retrospect, should have blended another exposure for smoother foreground water. Oh well... Hindsight's always 20/20.

It was so surprising to me: it was the first time ever I travelled to California - and felt like coming home! I grew up in Southamerica (Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) - in California, at least in the part I went to (Palo Alto and Monterey Bay) I found so many similarities. Not to mention all the spanish street and city names, also the architecture and the land- and seascape. The coastline in Chile (for example in Zapallar, north of Santiago de Chile) is just like the one in Carmel by the Sea... even the architecture is similar.
