This is from the now-famous Horseshoe Bend Point near Page, Arizona. I don't think it was all that well-known at the time I took this picture, given the limited proliferation of the Internet back then. You can see variations of this everywhere these days.
The Colorado is about 2,300 km long. It starts off in northern Colorado state, and flows into the Gulf of California by way of Utah and Arizona. It is the primary source of irrigation in the desert southwest of the U.S. A short distance to the west of the Point is the Glen Canyon Dam and its reservoir, Lake Powell.

This photo was taken with my Nikon F100 using Fuji Velvia 50. The lens was a Nikkor AF-S 24-85 f:3.5-4.5 G.
Between 3/4 and 1/2 moon, the light across the Arizona landscape at night was amazing to see, as well as still making out some of the Milky Way there in the brighter night sky.
