Monument Valley | Navajo Nation, Arizona | San Juan County, Utah.

Took a little excursion to Phoenix Arizona this week. I FINALLY got to see a real live Saguaro cactus. Isn't this always the first thing you picture when you think of the desert. I was so disappointed when I took my big trip out west 5 years ago. I went to Northern Arizona, and southern Utah. No big cacti! I didn't realize they only live way down in southern Arizona. So... I finally made it there. It turns out that Phoenix is hot in August. I stepped out of the airport and immediately thought 'I wonder if this is what Hell is like?'

The last rays of sunlight kiss the rock formations at White Pocket in Arizona.

Kevin,Gigi and I have returned home after 10 days, 2,700 miles of driving and about 20 miles of hiking from Southern Utah and Northern Arizona a few days ago

This day started out as a cloudless but about 2 PM the clouds moved in a we were treated with a nice afternoon and sunset. Then it was a 2 hour very ruff and bumpy ride on dirt roads back to our camp

man, I love this place...

The classic shot of The Wave in Arizona.

I found this dead tree branch at the bottom of the formation, and carefully placed it in my composition in an attempt to add some additional interest.

Nice light show tonight in Arizona. Dry storm, wind lighting, and a bit of dust. Usual Arizona summer storm.

These little ramadas people bbq and hang out at at Saguaro West. Nice view.

Those are two Ocotillo plants and Mountains.

Plus several textures.

I can't decide whether I like the framing or not. I think I do.

The Red Rocks of Sedona, Arizona on a beautiful March day.

The more I go back through the images of Antelope Canyon the more I think that monochrome is the best way to present the shape and textures of the rock.

In this image you can see how narrow some of the passages are. I think this image also presents how dark it was in some areas.

This is a super place to add to your bucket list!

2002...Brian Matsumoto hooked me up with 400mm glass straight from his office at Canon in Schaumberg, Illinois. Here at Darling, Arizona this eastbound is doing every bit of the limit.

Another night in paradise

Here's another from Oak Creek Canyon a few days ago. I never knew there was this much fall color up there. It was really beautiful. I just took another ride up there this morning, and the colors are already starting to fade.

Giant Saguaro provide the silhouettes in this picture of an Arizona sunset.

Back to scanning old slides. This one from a trip to Tucson sometime in the late 80s. Sometimes lens flare works, sometimes not - I rather like it here.

Just need the Corona :)
