This peaceful little church was built in 1740 to replace one which was destroyed by the River Wye. It contains treasures from the old church including the medieval east window and the old font probably 12th century. The beautiful stained glass windows are also well worth a look. The tower houses the original five bells which have been in situ since the church was built and are still in regular use today.

...and all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

Grey ships pass

Into the west...

(Annie Lennox - Into the West)

Annie: Are you thinkin what I'm thinkin?

Fannie: I'm just thinkin how stoopid we must look!

Annie: Oooohh..I wasn't thinkin THAT!

45~365

Every day I write the list

Of reasons why I still believe they do exist

(a thousand beautiful things)

And even though it's hard to see

The glass is full and not half empty

(a thousand beautiful things)

So....light me up like the sun

To cool down with your rain

I never want to close my eyes again

Never close my eyes

Never close my eyes

The parish church is dedicated to St. Meilig, who is said to have founded a monastery in the 6th century at Croesfeilig near the village and to be buried there. Meilig may have been one of the sons of Caw and brother to St. Gildas. He is mentioned in Culhwch and Olwen as one of the knights in the court of King Arthur.

Lay down your sweet and weary head

Night is falling

You've come to journey's end

Sleep now and dream of the ones who came before

They are calling from across the distant shore

And all will turn to silver glass

A light on the water

All souls pass

-Annie Lennox "Into the West"

How many times do I have to try to tell you

That I'm sorry for the things I've done

But when I start to try to tell you

That's when you have to tell me

Hey... this kind of trouble's only just begun

I tell myself too many times

Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut

That's why it hurts so bad to hear the words

That keep on falling from your mouth

Annie Lennox - Why

I'm very proud to announce that Annex Photography now has their own website!!!

Please go check it out! We have our own blog and everything and I customized the entire thing myself. I consider myself pretty tech savvy but that was a pretty challenging feat and I'm super happy with the outcome.

We have done quite a few gigs this summer and would even dare to call us experienced photographers now. It's amazing how quickly we've improved and how much we learn with each shoot. Anyways, I hope you all check it out and feel free to leave comments on our blog section.

And the lyrics ...:-)

We skipped the light fandango

turned cartwheels 'cross the floor

I was feeling kinda seasick

but the crowd called out for more

The room was humming harder

as the ceiling flew away

When we called out for another drink

the waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later

as the miller told his tale

that her face, at first just ghostly,

turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, 'There is no reason

and the truth is plain to see.'

But I wandered through my playing cards

and would not let her be

one of sixteen vestal virgins

who were leaving for the coast

and although my eyes were open

they might have just as well've been closed

She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'

though in truth we were at sea

so I took her by the looking glass

and forced her to agree

saying, 'You must be the mermaid

who took Neptune for a ride.'

But she smiled at me so sadly

that my anger straightway died

If music be the food of love

then laughter is its queen

and likewise if behind is in front

then dirt in truth is clean

My mouth by then like cardboard

seemed to slip straight through my head

So we crash-dived straightway quickly

and attacked the ocean bed

More London is a development on the south bank of the River Thames. It includes the City Hall, a sunken amphitheatre called The Scoop, office blocks, shops, restaurants, cafes, and a pedestrianised area containing open-air sculptures and water features, including fountains lit by coloured lights. The Shard is also referred to as the Shard of Glass. It stands approximately 309 metres (1,014 ft) high, and is currently the tallest building in the European Union. HMS Belfast is a museum, originally a Royal Navy light cruiser. It is permanently moored in London and is operated by the Imperial War Museum.

A boy has a right to dream

there are endless possibilities stretched out before him

what awaits him down that path, he will then have to choose

The boy doesn't always know

At some point the boy then becomes an adult

and learns what he was able to become

Joy sadness will forever accompany this

He is confronted with a choice

when this happens he is bid his past farewell in his heart

Once a boy becomes an adult he can no longer go back to being a boy

The boy is now a man

Only one thing can be said

A boy has the right to dream

for those endless possibilities are stretched out before him,

we must remember

All men were once boys.

"I seem to be on a road, walking, greeting the hedgerows, the rose-hips, the apples and thorn. I seem to be on a road, walking, familiar with neighbours, high-handed with cattle, smelling the sea, and alone. Already, I know the names of things. I can kick a stone."

AFTER THE RAIN – NAJWA MAHIADDIN & JUNY

Rose hips full and bursting with colour

delicious syrup makes life sweet

add a little lavender honey and always see the funny

side of everything and everyone you meet

inside we are all children

some hide it very well

but I still run and skip and jump

throw pennies in a wishing well

I still wish upon a rainbow

or a distant shooting star

I still run through Autumn leaves

I'd rather cycle than go by car

on my bicycle I have a bell

and a little basket

in which I place my precious treasures

obje trouve worth more than objet d'art

you cannot put a price upon

the little things in life

it is the little things, you see

that are the remedy to our strife

sea glass shines between the pebbles

horses gallop across the sands

I have all I need in pockets

weighted down beneath my hands

I would love to see a seahorse

swimming in the deep blue sea

but I'm content to see a seashell

that reminds me that you once loved me

I don't suppose you meant to hurt me

somehow it doesn't matter now

I have all the hope and dreams

and wishes I could want for now

seaweed comes in many sizes

shapes and colours; with the waves

floating in on tidal evenings

peacefulness is all I crave

and in these weightless, tranquil moments

I float on wings in cloudless skies

if you listen to the wind

you may hear my gentle sighs.

St. John's Church is a Grade II listed Church of England parish church in Wolverhampton. The church was built between 1758 and 1776 to designs of either William Baker or Roger Eykyn. It was built due to the population rising at the time of the industrial revolution.

“Been given 24 hours

To tie up loose ends

To make amends

His eyes said it all

I started to fall

And the silence deafened

Head spinning round

No time to sit down

Just wanted to

Run and run and run

Be careful they say

Don't wish life away,

Now I've one day

And I can't believe

How I've been wasting my time

In 24 hours they'll be

Laying flowers

On my life, it's over tonight

I'm not messing no I

Need your blessing

And your promise to live free

Please do it for me

Is there a heaven a hell

And will I come back

Who can tell

Now I can see

What matters to me

It's as clear as crystal

The places I've been

The people I've seen

Plans that I made

Start to fade

The sun's setting gold

Thought I would grow old,

It wasn't to be

And I can't believe

How I've been wasting my time

In 18 hours they'll be

Laying flowers

On my life, it's over tonight

I'm not messing no I

Need your blessing

And your promise to live free

Please do it for me..........

One of our coral hibiscus flowers ~

HIBISCUS

In a sky, dense dark and grey,

when predators lookout for their prey

squirrels scatter every which way,

leading the path for my stay.

Drops of white pearls,

tear down the pink petals

glittering under the sparkling sun,

with beauty ne’er outdone.

Peeking through nature’s looking glass,

lies a beautiful heart of yellow grass

rests a reservoir of sweet gold,

that inveigle the swarm untold.

All the drizzle and haze

that forged an irrational maze,

ended with what may bring

the spell of fragrant spring.

Now bloomed the bud,

in the mucky miry mud

waiting to be plucked

the florid Hibiscus.

Our campsite was a short distance from this little corner of Jenny Lake. I picked this spot out because I had noticed that the water was relatively still here early in the morning.

In pitch darkness I woke and did my best to leave camp without waking the other campers and, more importantly, my wife! It was still pitch when I arrived here to set up my tripod and wait ... and wait.

The previous morning the lake was still as glass, but alas it was overcast! I waited some more. Finally, despite some clouds to the east, I got some early morning rays of pink and red to light up the face of the Tetons.

2008 was a great year and, like this photo, worth the wait. I wish all the best to you and yours -- Happy 2009!! Thanks so much for all the views, comments, faves and, most importantly, sharing all of your wonderful photos with us here on flickr!

I must also say thanks to Annie and Mike, two friends of mine who turned me on to flickr earlier this year and from whom I (not-so-) secretly steal photographic inspiration.

By the way - this image was processed using the new HDR MAX program, available from www.ariea.com. They are running a photo contest to promote the program - the first prize is a 15" MacBook Pro. Details here.

Thanks to all who viewed/commented/faved - Happy 2009 again!

Lay down,

your sweet and weary head.

Night is falling.

You have come to journey’s end.

Sleep now, and dream

of the ones who came before.

They are calling,

from across a distant shore.

Why do you weep?

What are these tears upon your face?

Soon you will see.

All of your fears will pass away.

Safe in my arms,

you’re only sleeping.

What can you see,

on the horizon?

Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea,

a pale moon rises.

The ships have come,

to carry you home.

And all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

All souls pass.

Hope fades,

Into the world of night.

Through shadows falling,

Out of memory and time.

Don’t say,

We have come now to the end.

White shores are calling.

You and I will meet again.

And you’ll be here in my arms,

Just sleeping.

What can you see,

on the horizon?

Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea,

a pale moon rises.

The ships have come,

to carry you home.

And all will turn,

to silver glass.

A light on the water.

Grey ships pass

Sometimes I’m lazy photographically. Instead of hunting out something new, I’ll go to old haunts. I try to avoid doing this, but sometimes you just can’t help it - you’re driving by a familiar spot and the lighting is just right so you hop out of the car and take a few photos. The trick is to try and do something different and unusual every time. It doesn’t have to involve a lot of equipment or a fancy technique - sometimes the interesting shot is right behind you. If you see 100 people pointing their lens in one direction - turn yours around and see what they are missing. Even if it is less “interesting” than the subject everyone else is shooting, by virtue of its novelty it will be a better photograph. If what you are doing is different, it will be interesting - even if the subject matter is just a window in an empty museum. It was late winter and we were driving to meet Annie and Mike for a bite to eat at Kuma’s Corner when the sun was beginning to peak out from behind this dark, low ceiling of clouds over the city. I did the typical thing and got a bunch of images of the skyline straight on when my wife suggested I get the sunlight glinting off the Adler Planetarium. In doing so (she always knows where the unsual image will come from), I saw a post and a wall of glass and the whole skyline reflected in a window. Nikon builds these great little intervalometers into their cameras now - you can tell the camera how many photos to take and when to take them - you press a button and walk away - instant remote release!

By the way - this was taken with a Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 which was purchased for around $175 from Kiev Camera. Given the number of images I've posted using this lens, I'd say I've gotten my money's worth! Lens data is missing from the EXIF - so there it is - thanks!
