After we left Mount Robson, we headed south for a couple of hours and arrived at a lovely restaurant called Painted Turtle.. quite aptly named as they had some painted turtles at the side of the Lake, just resting up on a log in between water lilies and flag irises.

Unfortunately I'd left my zoom lens on the bus, so I had to crop this one a bit.

I hope you're all having a great weekend :)

I have a sore back today for some reason, but at least as it's Saturday, I can take it a bit easier :)

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my work and for the great comments on yesterday's Mount Robson photo :)

Painted stork

Indische Nimmerzat

Mycteria leucocephala

Today we drink together!

A painted stork with a duck foraging in shallow water.

The painted stork is a large wading bird and is, in the wild, found in Asia, south of the Himalaya, from the Indian subcontinent to Southeast asia.

They nest colonially in trees, often along with other waterbirds. The only sounds they produce are weak moans or bill clattering at the nest. They are not migratory and only make short distance movements in some parts of their range in response to changes in weather or food availability or for breeding. They walk slowly and also disturb the water with their feet to flush fish.

Painted storks feed in groups in shallow wetlands, crop fields and irrigation canals.

Painted stork nesting colonies often become centres of tourist attraction due to their large size and colour.

The black soil is lignite that was vegetative matter that grew along the floodplain. The grey coloring is mudstone, siltstone, and shale. The red coloring is laterite soil that formed by floodplain deposits when the area was warm and humid. An abundance of fossil remains of early horses, camels, and rhinoceroses in the Painted Hills unit makes the area particularly important to vertebrate paleontologists. (Wikipedia)

Double exposure with forest and painting

The painted stork, Mycteria leucocephala is a large wader in the stork family. It is about 93–102 cm tall, 150–160 cm in wingspan and weighing 2–3.5 kg. They live in groups.

This species is classified as Near Threatened because it is thought to be undergoing a moderately rapid population decline owing primarily to hunting, wetland drainage and pollution.

Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. It is much appreciated.

Continuing with posting monochrome photos of the colorful Painted Hills (a questionable decision, I'm sure), here is a 2.5 minute exposure taken at the Painted Cove in bright morning light using an infrared filter. I had my old 30D converted to infrared a couple of years ago and it just hasn't delivered the results I had hoped. Perhaps because it was calibrated to a 50mm lens and that's not my preferred focal length, or maybe it's the crop sensor of the camera, or perhaps the person behind the lens doesn't know what she's doing . . . I don't know. But I've all but given up on it.

This image was taken using the Hoya R72 filter and it's a lot of fun, requiring finding the right scene, very long exposures and a lot of patience processing in Photoshop.

Thanks for looking and thanks for all the clicks, faves and comments recently! Always appreciated.

Have a wonderful day and week-end, my friends !

Off on another adventure... sometimes we catch light, sometimes we don't. My general rule is explore when the probability is high, and relax when it's low.

The Painted Pansies cuddle up to their flower fairy godmothers just being the cute and lazy flowery felines that they are. Those who passes by won't even be able to notice them among the pretty flower beds.

This man was standing in a field quietly painting the Grand Teton Range. I wanted to capture him as his stillness when taking in the scene and economy of movement when painting captivated me. He was so precise in all he did. I really like how he blends into the scene so wonderfully ;0)

Painted Hills is one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in Wheeler County, Oregon. Painted Hills is named after the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geological eras, formed when the area was an ancient river floodplain.

Continuing my relapse using the Oil Paint Filter in Photoshop, this is a recent shot from a collaboration with Tim Gamble up on the Snake Pass. The original image was shot in one exposure as usual

My apologies for not commenting much. My computer is in super slow motion, and pages take forever to load. Grr....
