Anas platyrhynchos, female
German: Stockente, weiblich
Bulmker Park, Gelsenkirchen, Germany, 30.07.2016
The Mallard, or Wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos[1]), probably the best-known and most recognizable of all ducks, is a dabbling duck which breeds throughout the temperate and sub-tropical Americas, Europe, Asia, New Zealand (where it is currently the most common duck species), and Australia.
The male birds have a bright green head, while the female's is light brown. The Mallard lives in wetlands, eats water plants, and is gregarious. It is also migratory. The Mallard is the ancestor of all domestic ducks, and can interbreed with other species of genus Anas.[2] This interbreeding is causing rarer species of ducks to become genetically diluted.
The Mallard is 56–65 centimetres (22–26 in) long, has a wingspan of 81–98 centimetres (32–39 in), and weighs 0.9–1.2 kilograms (32–42 oz). The breeding male is unmistakable, with a bright green head, black rear end and a yellowish orange (can also contain some red) bill tipped with black (as opposed to the dark brown bill in females), and is also nature's most feared duck. The female Mallard is light brown, like most female dabbling ducks. However, both the female and male Mallards have distinct purple speculum edged with white, prominent in flight or at rest (though temporarily shed during the annual summer moult). In non-breeding (eclipse) plumage the drake becomes drab, looking more like the female, but still distinguishable by its yellow bill and reddish breast.
In captivity, domestic ducks come in wild-type plumages, white, and other colours. Most of these colour variants are also known in domestic Mallards not bred as livestock, but kept as pets, aviary birds, etc., where they are rare but increasing in availability.
A noisy species, the male has a nasal call, the female has a "quack" stereotypically associated with ducks.[3]
The Mallard is a rare example of both Allen's Rule and Bergmann's Rule in birds. Bergmann's Rule, which states that polar forms tend to be larger than related ones from warmer climates, has numerous examples in birds. Allen's Rule says that appendages like ears tend to be smaller in polar forms to minimize heat loss, and larger in tropical and desert equivalents to facilitate heat diffusion, and that the polar taxa are stockier overall. Examples of this rule in birds are rare, as they lack external ears. However, the bill of ducks is very well supplied with blood vessels and is vulnerable to cold.

Ana as Bean-Nighe
OMG, we are down to only 4 now. It seems like it was yesterday when this whole contest started.
This week we had to make a more modern version of a legend from Scotland and we got to pick the one we wanted out of 4 characters. I saw the theme first and got to pick first and I chosed Bean-Nighe cause it was the only that I found interesting and good for Ana. I went to this stream which btw was freezing cold and took the shots. My feet are blue atm but I really like the outcome of this.
Hope you like it! :)

Boa sexta meus amigos!
A year ago I met Ana. She was sitting in a wheelchair as she was recovering from a paralysis. She asked me to shoot her portrait. She wanted to document this part of her life. I was curious - about her story and the way I would choose to photograph her. I was expecting someone struggling with the changes in her life, but I was wrong. She was the happiest person I've ever met. Now on my blog: www.zielecki.com/blog/ana

This is for my darling soul-sister ana who does not sleep enough and who needs something beautiful to send her to sleep. So I am sending this to you with my great love Ana. I painted it for you and I am reminding you of the music you should be hearing to sing you to sleep - I did not write it, sorry.
Here are the words and the link
When at night I go to sleep
Fourteen angels watch do keep
Two my head are guarding
Two my feet are guiding
Two are on my right hand
Two are on my left hand
Two who warmly cover
Two who o'er me hover
Two to whom 'tis given
To guide my steps to heaven
I'm so so happy to announce that I open a pose store. Hopefully my poses will inspire you in any kind of way ♥

Ainhowe or Ana Cross is situated about ½ a mile east of Rosedale Chimney Bank on wild Spaunton Moor and has been a prominent landmark for hundreds of years.
It is built on a prehistoric bronze age burial mound (the 'howe' or 'tumulus' of Aine How), presumably to show that Christianity was now the new boss!
The cross has been restored quite recently and the difference in colour of the new shaft can be seen though it will soon weather to match the top part in due course.
The original cross can be seen in the crypt of Lastingham Church, about 2 miles south of this present structure which stands at an impressive height of over 3 metres. This makes it the tallest cross on the moors but at one time it stood even higher being approx 8 metres high !
