TY again Timmi Allen for the wonderful Elephant ;-)

Those of you that have followed our escapades through South Africa in 2007, know that Rollers are a bit of a sensitive subject for Hans and me. On that trip we drove ourselves (unlike on this trip) and with every Roller I saw - and they are a plague according to Hans - I wanted to stop and take pictures of these flying color palettes. In the end Hans was so fed up with Rollers that at even an attempt to say "Ro........." he hit the gas pedal. :-) In the end we agreed that I was only allowed to stop when the bird had prey - which they fortunately often have..

It wasn't much different this year. The birds form such a temptation, I just can't resist them. So when the first Ro....... came within view, Hans surrendered... a few times. But strangely, this year the birds seemed quite skittish and often flew away pretty fast. Hmm.... But every time I looked suspiciously to the back of the car where Hans and tracker Phillemon were seated, they looked completely baby-faced. Until I caught them! Every time a Roller was seen, I immediately ducked behind the camera, while at the same time Hans and Phillemon started waving their arms in unison, resembling two giant phoenixes.. with grins from ear to ear like two middle-aged rascals…

In the end I gave in…. :-)

Forse se pigi....L...è meglio ...

i could tell you right now what this image is missing... a silhouette of an elephant, with the trunk high up in the air, somewhere around that tree.

but hey... it wasn't meant to be, i guess :) hehe

don't you agree with me?

best on black - thanks for looking have a brilliant day

Another old shots from my Kenya Adventure, above are Elephants from Samburu......They are beautiful creature, gentle yet very protective to their families. I feel ashamed thinking that we humans harm them, and most of the time we kill them for their tusks....

Have you notice the Heart Shape? That is why I name this image, "Africa's Heart". A single Ear looks like an Africa Map, the two together looks like a Heart shape.

I intend to show some of my old shots in Flickr, so as to maintain some randomness in my Flickr page.

Giraffe in Tanzania

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

L'Africa puo' essere una terapia.

I grandi spazi, la natura in alcuni posti ancora selvaggia. La vita semplice. Il sorriso dei bambini che non hanno nulla. I grandi silenzi. Sono tutte cose che ci fanno pensare e forse comprendere quanto poco valore abbiano tutte quelle piccole cose per cui ci danniamo.

Africa can 'be a therapy.

The wide open spaces, nature in some places still wild. The simple life. The smiles of the children who have nothing. The great silences. These are all things that make us think and perhaps understand how little value they have all those little things that we danniamo.

A piece of Africa—actually lots of them—began to arrive in the Americas in June 2014. On June 23, a lengthy river of dust from western Africa began to push across the Atlantic Ocean on easterly winds. A week later, the influx of dust was affecting air quality as far away as the southeastern United States.

This composite image, made with data from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on Suomi NPP, shows dust heading west toward South America and the Gulf of Mexico on June 25, 2014. The dust flowed roughly parallel to a line of clouds in the intertropical convergence zone, an area near the equator where the trade winds come together and rain and clouds are common. In imagery captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), the dust appeared to be streaming from Mauritania, Senegal, and Western Sahara, though some of it may have originated in countries farther to the east.

Saharan dust has a range of impacts on ecosystems downwind. Each year, dust events like the one pictured here deliver about 40 million tons of dust from the Sahara to the Amazon River Basin. The minerals in the dust replenish nutrients in rainforest soils, which are continually depleted by drenching, tropical rains. Research focused on peat soils in the Everglades show that African dust has been arriving regularly in South Florida for thousands of years as well.

In some instances, the impacts are harmful. Infusion of Saharan dust, for instance, can have a negative impact on air quality in the Americas. And scientists have linked African dust to outbreaks of certain types of toxic algal blooms in the Gulf of Mexico and southern Florida.
