I've taken a lot of inspiration and energy from singing in a newly established little choir in my hometown lately; it's just fantastic to be part of such a powerful entity. (July 2013)

It's been almost 4 years now.... The choir went through its ups and downs but we're still alive and singing. :-) Time to be thankful again.

Colourfield Fence - Green Balshazzar by Richard Gardner-Warner

The third of a series of 3 images based on a straight shot of an old, badly painted fence.

The panoramic shot of the fence immediately brought to mind the long, large scale, abstract paintings by both Barnett Newman and Jules Olistki, so I thought to spring off their work to create something of my own.

There's a deep bow here, in the titling, to Olitski. I chose the name after one of my favourite paintings of his, "Bashazzar Dream". It is also green.

Colourfield Fence - Arborea Borealis by Richard Gardner-Warner

The 2nd in a small series taking a 'straight shot' of a Cabbagetown Fence and digitally manipulating the image with colour treatments and effects. The effects are done is such as way as to maintain the incredible detailing of the old wood and the crumbling, poorly-done paint job.

Again, this image got me thinking about the work of Barnett Newman and his epic-sized horizontal paintings with their vertical "zips". Here the colour scheme seems to suggest a vague connection with his painting, "Cathedra". While not trying to overtly create a Newman, I am letting his influence flow through and inform my work. Good old Barney would not have liked all this detail and colour play !!!!!
