The beautiful pink granite of the Josephine Shaw Lowell Fountain at Bryant Park in Manhattan has a beautiful shroud of ice upon its surface as the northeast continues to struggle with the deep freeze of 2015 on a 11 degree February afternoon. This does happen every year but this year’s unusual snap of Arctic and Siberian jet streams plunging the northeastern part of the United States into a prolonged deep freeze are quite concerning to the Bryant Park Corporation which cares for the fountain and the park. The icicles and their weight are putting undue strain on the granite bowls of the Josephine Shaw Lowell Fountain. In a normal year, the temperature fluctuates sufficiently to allow thawing and melting of the ice, but not this year. So as more precipitation is added, it just adds to the weight, thus the concern for the structural integrity of the granite bowls. So the park crews are actually chipping away at the icicles on the fountain to reduce the ice’s mass and shutting off the water, both actions out of the norm in the winter.

Eu e Zel e Dal, pendurados ai nesta janela, eu morrendo de medo, detesto altura, olhando la pra baixo e clicando.
Listening to Bob Dylan 42nd st.
I think this picture has a very weird and unreal look but I don't know what it is.
It's exactly how it came out of the camera, it doesn't have retouching besides the normal tweaks and setting I have when shooting with the D800.
Explore #471
It is always nice to see our own pictures in Explore, I guess some type of recognition. I like it too :))) But what I love most is to see your comments no matter how wacky ;) or beautifully wacky ;))))) it is!! So this is for all of you. You give me the drive to go out there and shoot, I have you in mind and before posting I wonder how s/he would like and comment. You guys are my therapist and I need few of them!!! LOL!! Since I can't afford I compensate by digital expression, at least it's almost free!!!
This is main hall (I guess!!) of the famous Cipriani!! I always wanted to take some shots of the inside but was turned down for some reason or another. It is kind of hard to photograph this area. Having you guys in mind I walked in, charmed the ever wanting to be charmed security guard (since the others didn't fall for it!!!), was all smile and humble and followed direction where and how I can take pictures!! Finally he totally fell to my irresistible charms (or maybe he was bored, most probably, LOL!!) and HE wanted me to take his portrait too, hope he is not in trouble!!
Thank you all for being my FLICKR FRIEND.
O, almost forget to give you the links of the official site with shots from, just a tad, more professional photographers!!!

The view from Tudor City bridge over 42nd Street in New York City (NYC) looking West during the July 2010 Manhattanhenge. Found this image while poking through the archives. Hopefully this year I will be able to shoot the henge once or twice.

Night shot on 42nd street in New York City, with the Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler building front and center.
Batman and the Penguin crossing West 42nd street. Night capture from Times Square in New York City. Crossroads of the world and the occasional superhero.
on street:
Street seems to mean different things to different people, some who are constantly hung up in the definition instead of the image. Several groups here have rules about cameras, lenses, people, pets, etc... I read through the discussions and nine times out of ten I am confused as to why those things matter?
I love having a great camera and having a basic concept of how to use it.. but I am just not an equipment junkie.. more power to those of you who are.. I am often jealous of your collections :).. but that is not why I take pictures.
To me street is anything that shows a moment in time that can never be recreated.. a moment that encapsulates what it means to be human.. or to brush up against what humanity creates.. it doesn't matter if that moment is shot in your face.. or from many feet away in a dark corner...the message is not in the process, but in the image.
Manhattanhenge - This was my first time seeing this with my own eyes. A pretty amazing sight to behold. Three bracket shots without a tripod just before the sun disappeared below the horizon. Several of us jumped out into the middle of 42nd to get a better line of sight. NYPD was gracious in holding traffic so we could capture the moment.
