The Northrop T-38 Talon is an American supersonic jet trainer. It was the world's first supersonic trainer and to date, is also the most produced. It remains in service as of 2009 in air forces throughout the world including the United States Air Force (USAF), which remains its largest user.

The basic airframe was used for the light combat aircraft F-5 Freedom Fighter family. In addition to USAF pilots, T-38s are also used by NASA astronauts, the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School (other T-38s were previously used as USN aggressor aircraft), other NATO pilots under a joint training program, and some under civilian ownership.

.............of wedded bliss. These are the flowers my husband sent me for our 38th wedding anniversary.

2012 is the 100th anniversary of bus route 38, and on Sunday 17th June Arriva marked the occasion by running three Routemasters from its Heritage Fleet as 'extras'. These were also joined by an RTL and RTW from the London Bus Company. No fares were charged on these buses, but passengers were invited to make a donation to Maggie's Cancer Charity. A vintage K-type bus dating from 1921 also traversed the route, carrying invited guests. As three of the 'New Bus 4 London' were also operating, the route attracted a lot of attention.

today was cold, but tonight will be even colder. jimi insisted on going out anyway, even though he spent the entire time huddled under the truck. he has his coat all fluffed up for insulation. jimi would like to take a moment to think about those kitties out there who don't have the option of coming inside after crouching under a car for a few minutes in the cold. we always worry for the outside animals on nights like these.

jimi fact #38... jimi chirps when he runs really fast. well, when he runs really fast for jimi, which isn't actually very fast. it's just sort of a hopping, skipping, chirping gait.

A rather uneventful week had me 52-less and and desperate for a photo that would not come out completely white (WTF, Polaroid? I gave my last nickel for these films!) on Sunday night. Feeling very old-school for taking the picture at the last second and grateful for friends that didn't mind being harassed into holding still for 2 seconds I ended up with this.

Say hi to Andi2, Sabrina, Miles, Andi1 and The Janinja3000.

We all used to work together years and years ago. This Sunday we met up to watch "Tropic Thunder" and spent a whole hour before the film to marvel at how we managed to make this movie date happen and how "we should do this again sometime".

Which we all know is code for "and it will never happen again".

The film was great and I specifically enjoyed the wide range of sweets available when you go to the cinema with so many people. So maybe we just have to do it again sometime.

I wish I had the ability to fully capture the wonder of this twice-daily sight......A massive flock of crows, thousands of them, make their way from the outskirts of the city into the city every night, and then migrate back into the outskirts every morning.

My cousin is an ornithologist in Maine, and I asked him if he knew what this phenomenon was. He pointed me to a study done at Cornell University about these birds.

Interestingly, there's debate as to whether they come into the city for protection at night, or to be near sources of food in the morning, or some other reason. The giant flocks dissipate when they get to their day-time hang-out, and only congregate in the evenings to come back into town.

And, this only happens between October/November and March/April...from May until September they don't form these giant flocks.

I find them fascinating.

RCW 38 is an embedded cluster located about 5,500 light years away in the direction of the constellation Vela (the Sails). The cluster is composed of several short lived massive stars. Many of these stars will go on to explode as supernovae.
