Actually had a lie-in this morning which was of great help in banishing the jetlag. Painted the bathroom once I was up and then went over to B&Q to pick up some shelving as my bookcases are currently inadequate... late afternoon I headed over to Biddulph to help out and take photos at the Steve Knightley gig. Interestingly, he expressed admiration for Bruce Springsteen and did a cover of "One Step Up" . I can't get away from The Boss at the moment.

I spent the afternoon hanging by the poolside with a friend at his family farm, which I would call a bit o' paradise. Just before heading out, I took my self-portrait - because why wouldn't I take advantage of paradise for such purposes? (I used a human remote, of course, because I can't swim 50 feet and climb up on a diving board in 10 seconds, duh). Needless to say, I did a really crappy job of getting the exposure and light right. And in the end, I like the hyped-up, over-exposed version better. You may disagree... but phooey on you.

The Meisho Maru 38, ran aground between Suiderstrand and Cape L'Agulhas on 16 November 1982. The ship had 240 tons of frozen tuna aboard. During a storm on 31 August 2008 the ship was turned around in heavy seas.
2012 is the 100th anniversary of bus route 38, and on Sunday 17th June Arriva marked the occasion by running three Routemasters from its Heritage Fleet as 'extras'. These were also joined by an RTL and RTW from the London Bus Company. No fares were charged on these buses, but passengers were invited to make a donation to Maggie's Cancer Charity. A vintage K-type bus dating from 1921 also traversed the route, carrying invited guests. As three of the 'New Bus 4 London' were also operating, the route attracted a lot of attention.
LT2, the second of the 'New Bus 4 London' prototypes, is seen here at Islington Angel on its way to Victoria. Passengers can board by the front door; Oyster Card users can also board by the rear platform and touch in on the reader there.

Word that best describe her day: Sh*t
I met Kassandra in the Montréal metro while getting back from a day with friends and since she seemed so approachable, I "risked" myself ;-) Although she made some fun of my maybe a "bit off" approach, she accepted to be part of the project!
She said her day was sh*t because she just got back from work and lately everybody was quitting or getting fired because of the hard economy. She worked at a Consulting Engineering business downtown and they had more and more trouble signing new contracts and she's been working there for 10 years so she was sad to see many friends go.
On a fun side, she told me this morning was her son's birthday so she woke up early before him to wish him happy birthday but he replied saying "that it was way too early for that".
Memorial service held 05/02/2010 on the 38th anniversary of the Sunshine Mine Fire, May 2nd 1972.

Everything you see in the photo is in the original scene. The plane itself is highly polished bare aluminium.
I didn't do these ... my father did (both the engraving and the wood grips... and the photos, for that matter). I recently received a folder with these old black & white prints, along with a number of pen-and-ink drawings that he had done to develop the designs. The revolver is a Smith & Wesson snubnose .38, I believe they called it the Chief's Special.

On these chilly fall mornings my little ones jump in bed with me. It's wonderfully cozy.
This was the best shot out of all the ones I took. My daughter is into making faces when I get the camera out and this was the only one she wasn't making a goofy face.

Shown here is the advert carried for Maggie's Cancer Charity - people are being invited to undertake a sponsored walk along the route of the 38 (it is 7.5 miles) to raise money for the charity.

In amongst all the excitement, the usual route 38 buses were quietly getting on with their job. DW422, a Wright Gemini2-bodied VDL DB300, is seen at Islington Angel headed for Victoria.

With one of the route's regular DB300s hot on its tail, The London Bus Company's RTW476, an 8' wide version of the RTL, nudges its way into the traffic at Islington Angel. Most RT/RTL buses were 7'6" wide, however the RTWs proved that wider buses could successfully operate in Central London and paved the way for the Routemaster to be built to an 8' width.
I was simply shooting the way the light was glinting off the branches of the tree in my front yard, against the blue blue blue of the sky, when this airplane wandered through my field of vision.
I'm amazed how tack-sharp this photo turned out, since I had literally a split second to hit the shutter. But if you look at it larger, you can even see the licensing number of the plane.
Prussian (KPEV) Class P8 (DRG CLass 38.10) 4-6-0 No.38 1772, built in 1915, in DB condition with extended chimney, Witte smoke deflectors, and ex-Kreigslok 2'2'T30 tender. Designed by Robert Garbe, about 3,850 P8's - an early and very successful mixed traffic design - were built 1906-24. At Siegen Depot Museum, 6/10.
