2nd place in Elite Contest #38: "Shades of Autumn" - Macro Elite Group
La P. piluliformis ha un cappello all’inizio globoso, poi campanulato o convesso, infine piano-convesso o spianato e più o meno ondulato, con diametro di 2-5 cm. Il colore è bruno-rossastro nel giovane, mentre nel fungo adulto è marrone-aranciato o ocra-marrtone con tempo umido, sbiadisce a partire dal centro divenendo ocra-biancastro con tempo secco. Le lamelle sono fitte, inizialmente biancastre poi marroncine ed infine sepia-violacee fino a nerastre. Il gambo è cilindrico, spesso flessuoso, cavo e fragile, con lunghezza di 3-8 cm e spessore di 0,2-0,9 cm, di colore bianco, un po’ sfumata di brunastro con l’età, a fibrillature longitudinali.
Cresce in gruppi su ceppi o tronchi morti di latifoglie o tutt’ intorno ad essi, in Estate-Autunno, fino a stagione inoltrata.
Specie molto comune e diffusa, almeno nelle mie zone di ricerca.

Some of the fine, beach front hotels in Neptune Beach. The lights in the distance are from Mayport, Florida.
From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."
They don't understand the distance traveled,
the time spent, or the costs involved for
"just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with
"just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was
"just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by
"just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness,
the gentle touch of "just a dog"
gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog,"
then you will probably understand phases
like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or
"just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence
of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and
patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early,
take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams
of the future, the fond memories of the past,
and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and
diverts my thoughts away from myself and the
worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that
it's not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps
me from being "just a man."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog."
just smile, because they "just don't understand."

Invece la dedico a chi qualche giorno fa ha scoperto, con un cazzotto nello stomaco, il valore della vita e di una persona accanto nel momento in cui il mondo ti crolla sotto i piedi.
Invece la dedico a me stesso...che nonostante tutto, nonostante tutti... voglio ancora vivermela sta vita. Lo voglio forse più di prima...

At long last, I'm able to "Flickr" again. =) This is my very first upload using my new EF-S 15-85mm IS USM. I'll be missing my 18-55mm IS. It served me really well. Anyways, this would have been better with an ND filter since the sun was still high up but I don't have one. =(

On our recent visit to Cumbria we went on a walk along Hadrian's Wall and stopped for a quick break at the famous Sycamore Gap. Sycamore Gap was featured in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" although it's a long way from the Nottingham location it was meant to be in the film.
I'm using this one for my 52 week project's theme from week 38,"seasonal".

An empty "FOR RENT" store in my small town. It is hard to be an urban sketcher when your town is only two blocks long and no one else is interested in sketching. But, I wanted to participate in the 38th SketchCrawl...a party of one is still a sketchcrawl. :-)
This sketch did not turn out as planned, so I added the frame at home in an effort to distract the viewer.

Dell’acqua dell’Aitora tratta la "Storia naturale di tutte le acque minerali la Toscana ed uso medico delle medesime" (Siena, 1835, tomo IV, pp. 5-38) di Giuseppe Giulj, insigne professore di Storia Naturale nell’Imperiale e Reale Università di Siena.
Il medico montecatinese Giacinto Vannocci (1773-1851) contribuì a segnalare al Giulj la sorgente minerale e ad apportare le proprie conoscenze sia teoriche che pratiche sulle caratteristiche e sui benefici «dell’acqua detta d’Aitora presso Monte Catini di Val di Cecina».
E viste le qualità, fu prospettato anche un eventuale sfruttamento termale per quella sorgente.
«[L’acqua detta d’Aitora] è situata al ponente di Monte Catini […], ed è in un luogo, ove i venti vi regnano per essere spogliata di piante: è vero che sorge sulla sinistra del Broto detto il Grigio, ma questo resta sempre asciutto, e soltanto si vede correre, quando cadono le piogge. La non lontana casa rurale del podere d’Aitora potrebbe dar ricovero, quando sopravvenisse qualche burasca in tempo d’estate, a quei, che ne facessero uso presso la sorgente, ed il Castello di Monte Catini potrebbe servire per starvi permanentemente a quelli, che si volessero medicare con quest’acqua, essendovi delle abitazioni assai pulite, e standovi di permanenza un medico, il quale potrebbe presiedere alla loro cura. […] Dell’acqua d’Aitora ne dà cenno il Signor Zuccagni [Attilio Zuccagni Orlandini], ma io l’avevo esaminata avanti, che egli ne parlasse. Sorte da un masso di schisto, ed è adunata in una piccola vasca naturale. […] La temperatura di quest’acqua, quando fu determinata, era di gradi 14, mentre quella dell’atmosfera era segnata in gradi 8, cosicché si può credere essere leggermente termale tanto più che le acque dei pozzi di queste vicinanze non segnano mai più di 12 gradi. Ha odore d’uova putride, o di gas acido idrosolforico; eguale è il suo sapore; ed è trasparente. Tinge di nero il rigagnolo, ove ha il suo rifiuto. […] Dietro le osservazioni del Sig. Dott. Giacinto Vannocci medico di valore, ed esercente la sua professione al sopra indicato Castello, so, che quest’acqua è adoprata utilmente sotto forma di bagno nei reumi, ed artriti croniche. Queste osservazioni pratiche confermano ciò che l’esame chimico avrebbe indicato, vale a dire, che il carbonato di soda, che porta seco, la consiglierebbe nelle indicate affezioni. Credo, che egualmente potrà esser utile nelle malattie sordide della pelle, se ne verranno prescritti dei bagni, dopo averla riscaldata col tubo, e la sua azione medica si potrà ripetere e dal gas acido idrosolforico, che contiene, come dal carbonato di soda, che l’accompagna. Se l’odor fetido d’uova putride, proprio di quest’acqua, non impedisse ai bambini di sorbirla, sarebbe giovevole nelle affezioni verminose facendogliela prendere da un bicchiere fino a due. Come uguali buoni effetti potrà produrre nel catarro della vessica, e forse anche nei casi di renelle per il carbonato di soda, che in essa si trova disciolto, ma nei casi in ultimo luogo accennati si dovrà far bevere nella quantità di otto o dieci bicchieri, come suol dirsi a passare».
Più tardi, nel 1870, anche Luigi Marieni, medico primario emerito dello Spedale Maggiore di Milano, esponendo nel suo Trattato i benefici dell’acqua sorgiva dell’Aitora, citerà ancora le osservazioni del dottor Vannocci e del professor Giulj.
«Il medico Vannucci [Vannocci] accenna di avere avuto giovamento notabile e costante usando quest’acqua nella cura dei reumi e delle artritidi, – e il professor Giulj crede che potrebbe giovare anche per sanare le malattie della cute. Si adopera per bagno essendo il suo sapore troppo disgustoso per amministrarlo per bocca»

Antonio Perone, "Dizionario universale topografico storico fisico-chimico terapeutico delle acque minerali e delle precipue mofette, e fumane di terreni evaporanti, ed emettenti fango, fino ad ora conosciute in tutte le province italiane, preceduto da considerazioni generali sulle acque dolci, marine e minerali, colle norme per usarne", Napoli, 1870, pp. 577-578].
