Despite the rain, we wanted to pay our respects to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. It seems like families of the victims had put roses on the names of their loved ones.

Chantal was taken by a little surprise with her b-day cake, on her birthday party. On this picture she's taking blind folds off and having big smile on her face ....

So I am actually dying for the sun to come out. I haven't seen it since 2009! Today it's been raining so hard... And it's so WARM. I didn't need a jacket or sweater outside today. Where's all that 2 feet of snow we had last year?! I didn't want to go outside to get a photo in the rain, but I finally did an hour ago, in the dark. I sat in a puddle, but none of those photos turned out. My butt only got soaked. So then I stood up and tried for this... It's grainy, the clarity isn't fantastic, but oh well. Ahhh, I really can't wait for the sun to come out someday! :)

A crappy photo, but just wanted to get a quick one in of my freshly-freed 11 Doctors set that my beloved bought me for Christmas!! I'm so so excited by them. :)

9/11 Memorial at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California

September 11, 2007

I went to visit the 9/11 Memorial in SL the other night, and it is quite moving and very well done. The four main walls which are set around a large reflecting pool were built in the style of the granite ones that were used for the Vietnam Memorial in Washingtom, DC.

Each name can be clearly read, and they are listed on the wall according to the location they died in. Each plane has listed all the people who were on it, and same for the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. There are benches to sit on, and at the foot of the walls are flowers, candles and other items left by those who have come to visit. There is a box that you can click on to get a free white rose to leave at the Memorial. There is also a place where you can leave a personal note in writing.

Here and there around the perimeter, there are posts which when you click on them, take you to a 9/11 website, where a list is set up in the same way as the Memorial. Each name can be clicked on. You can then view a picture of that person, and in many cases, the picture is accompanied by more information about the person.

A light rain falls at the Memorial site here with thunder rumbling in the background. It is very effective in enhancing the mood of this place, as one of solemn reflection, and remembrance of those who lost their lives that day.

In one corner of the Memorial, is an opening where you can walk into another section which contains all, or most of the pictures of the people who died that day. The walls of pictures tower over your avatar, and extend far down each wall. The view is quite overwhelming, due to the sheer number of pictures and how high the walls are, and so has quite an emotional effect on you as you stand there.

Hamlet from New World Notes blog wrote a very informative post on this memorial today, and about its creator, Liam Kanno, who was 3 blocks away from the World Trade Center when the planes hit. The helplessness he said he felt at the time, led him to put up this beautiful memorial in SL for those 2,996 people from 83 countries who died that day.

Playing catch up on my numbers here (way behind where I need to be). Yes I know there's other numbers in this shot, they don't count LOL.

It couldn't really be any other artist today. I first saw him on the Serious Moonlight tour - me and a mate from school snagged a lift down from Stoke as far as Oxford then hitch-hiked the rest of the way to Milton Keynes Bowl - we slept underneath a prefab portaloo as it started raining, but we managed to get in first and get down the front. Next saw Bowie on the Glass Spider Tour at Maine Road, which was very showbiz, but in a weird way. The final time that I saw him was when he played the Outsider Tour in 1995 at the NEC in Birmingham on 20th November - with a certain Steven Patrick Morrissey providing support.

Another lovely sunny day. Day of the Easter fair so I helped set up the hall after drop off, and then came home to walk the dogs, before the onslaught of the tiler and the cleaners arriving. The house feels a bit of project at the moment, with constant "bodies" invading all the time.

I've walked past this little bunch of crocuses everyday for the last couple of weeks. Today I had the camera with me - yay!

Week 11 - Reality - My reality over the next two weeks is that Spring Break is here and I get to spend it with my girl!!! We get to stop and smell the flowers!!! and bake, and sing and dance and play!!!! Yipppeeeee!!!

Sierra Madre Occidental, Durango, Dgo. Mx. The Sierra Madre Occidental is a major mountain range system of the North American Cordillera, that runs northwest–southeast through Northwestern and Western Mexico, and along the Gulf of California. The Sierra Madre is part of the American Cordillera, a chain of mountain ranges (cordillera) that consists of an almost continuous sequence of mountain ranges that form the western "backbone" of North America, Central America, South America and Antarctica.
