Nice beetle, but not very welcome in the garden... This one I saw in the small garden of my mother-in-law.

The scarlet lily beetle, red lily beetle, or lily leaf beetle (Lilioceris lilii), is a leaf beetle that eats the leaves, stem, buds, and flower, of lilies, fritillaries and other members of the family Liliaceae. It is now a pest in most temperate climates where lilies are cultivated.

Żuczek niebrzydki, ale szkodnik, więc raczej mało pożądany w ogrodzie. Tego znalazłam na działce u teściowej.

Poskrzypka liliowa (Lilioceris lilii) – gatunek chrząszcza z rodziny stonkowatych. Owad ten żeruje na konwalii majowej, kokoryczce wielokwiatowej, lilii złotogłów, innych liliach i szachownicach. Zjada liscie, łodygi, pąki i kwiaty.

These colorful red beetles are known as Scarlet Lily Beetles ( Lilioceris lilii ). They are most destructive among lilies and can defoliate a whole plant in days.

Thank goodness I sprayed after this photo was taken, because we have several varieties of lilies in our gardens.

My intended PoTD was to be a Cockscomb flower in my garden lunchtime until I spotted this Lily Beetle climbing up one of its leaves, The caption could refer to a number of things ..... one being the fact that it was hoping to climb up to the top, or the fact that as I was sat there on the path trying to get this shot, I had a certain man standing above me with his insecticide gun.....

Scarlet lily beetle, destroying my Lilies !

Sony A9II +90mm f2.8 @ 1/250 f16 iso 320 + Godox TTL fill flash, hand held auto focus, one image @ 30 cm distance.

They are about 6mm or 1/4 inch long

I believe this is Lilioceris Lilii.

Known as the Scarlet Lily Beetle, Red Lily Beetle or Lily Leaf Beetle.

A native of Europe and Asia.

It is considered a pest, particularly by commercial Lily growers.

Seen on my Fritillaries which are a member of the Lily family.

Beautiful looking but can be devastating to lilies.

Abflug von meinem Daumennagel.

Definitely found the mate - wonder how much damage they will do to the lily's this year. Hope you are all well. HWW

Maybe if I was lucky this little scarlet lily beetle would be flying on to pastures new! Hmmm I doubt it somehow lol! HWW have a great day ;0)

The Scarlet Lily Beetle, also called the Lily Leaf Beetle or the Red Lily Beetle is really at home on lilies of all sorts. It feeds on them and lays its eggs on them so what more could it want! A beautifully coloured little thing but one pest that any gardener with lilies should be on the look-out for!

I have left the composition of the image like this so that you can easily see the damage wrought by this little creature!

The dreaded scarlet lily beetle on Anemone. Gardeners nightmare but they are so beautiful.

HIHD - Hope you are all well

I certainly don't love these little beauties! But they are certainly back in abundance in the garden again this week. Although this is one from the archives. HIHD

The scarlet lily bugs are certainly at work in my garden! This does not look good for my plants!!! HIHD

They're back first one spotted in the garden yesterday! I guess I should get the fairy liquid wash out!! Have a great day in the garden. HBBBT

Spotted this little guy the other day.

Scarlet Lily Beetle

Lilioceris lilii

Garden, Thorpe Bay, Essex

Considering i do not grow any lilies, this Scarlet Lily Beetle is a most welcome visitor to my garden.

Another of the Scarlet lily beetles with one of my pot fairies (which was in the princess lily pot - wonder if it flowers this year!!!) The bokeh background is my Pieris Plant with the last of it's beautiful red leaves,

Scarlet Lily Beetles, and they are eating my lily leaves.

Many stages of the critter are seen here.

This little scarlet lily beetle didn't seem to have a clue where the lily's were in the garden. I first spotted it on here so took a few shots.

We grow Snake's head Fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) in our garden, the beetles were on this species when these shots were taken.
