Admiring the spines for my 2020 100x project, where x=plant defences and protection

This week, the members of the Wire Artisans Guild's challenge is to create jewelry with the theme of: WHIRLIGIG! This necklace is my interpretation of the theme. It's more of a Dr. Suess kinda interpretation but I wanted to create something that's fun and colorful! I hope you like it. It is a one of a kind piece of jewelry!

I first soldered various swirls of sterling silver wire to create the base pendant. I then used my stash of "orphan" gemstone beads (various gemstone beads that have been lying around in a box from other projects) to add the pop of color and whimsy to the piece. A few of the gemstones in this necklace include: Labadorite, Peridot, Citrine, Blue Topaz, Aquamarine, Rock Crystal, Lemon Topaz, Pink Sapphire, Neon Blue Apatite, Freshwater pearls, Amethyst Chalcedony, Garnet, and a Smooth Prehnite briolette at the bottom. OK, so I pretty much named them all!

The pendant hangs assymetrically on the neck (which adds to the Dr. Suess inspiration) and has a doubled SS link chain. The pendant measures 3 inches high and 2 1/2 inches wide. But remember it sits assymetrical so the dimension on the neck will be different depending on how you place it on the neck. The length of the necklace is 16-17 inches and has a sterling silver S hook.

A real proper sweet shop here, something of a rare sight these days. The shop windows are stuffed full of jars of all kinds of sweets to buy in loose measures. In the good old days, i.e. when I was a youngster, the standard measurement would be 'a quarter', i.e. 4 ounces. This would give you a decent bagful to chomp through during the long walk home from school (yes, I say 'walk' - this was before the days of compulsory lifts in the car from over-protective parents). If you didn't have quite enough pocket money left, there was always the option of going for just 2 ounces. These days we are legally required to be European (for some reason), and therefore everything is priced per 100 grams.

View large to have a closer look at these mouth-watering, teeth-rotting delights. What you see here is only a small proportion of the shop's stock, but the two photos show nearly 60 different jars containing, as follows:

BOHO Mixed Charm and Lampwork Glass Cluster Pendant Necklace. I began designing these retro-inspired pendants when the need for unique prop jewelry was needed for several photo shoots at a local advertising agency. We needed to design baubles that couldn't be found in stores and that we would personally wear. All items shown here were clustered together to create a one-of-a-kind pendant.

Charms and beads included in this pendant:

Handmade lampwork glass drop bead in amber and clear swirls. Glass was blown by local bead artist. Sterling silver "Love" message bead. Deep orange Carnelian gemstone top-drilled teardrop beads. Rose Swarovski crystal bicone drop charm with sterling silver spacer beads. Opalescent pale pink Czech glass teardrop beads. Glass crystal spotted fish charm. Glass crystal lemon charm. Deep orange translucent Carnelian gemstone chips.
