Gulf Coast Ribbon Snake

Gulf Coast Ribbon Snake

(Thamnophis proximus orarius).

This non-venomous snake is found in swamps, marshes, and rivers along the gulf coast of Texas and Louisiana. Ribbon and garter snakes are the only native snakes with lengthwise stripes. They have excellent vision and hunt primarily by sight, feeding on frogs, tadpoles, and fish. Their conservation status is considered to be stable.

I spotted this lil guy in the Atchafalaya.
