Hurdles (Scenes from a Track Meet)

Waiting the start of the women's 100m hurdles.

I took plenty of "action" photos at the recent NCAA track and field championship. But I decided to play around with some other things I shot to create this series: Scenes from a Track Meet. No real action, just bits and pieces of the event to give a sense of its whole.

I tried to give each of the photos a cross-processed look, too, just to give this a much different feel than the usual sports photography.

super awesome this shot caught my eye
I thought I'd send post this poem to tell you why
It was the colour and the lines that did the trick
But I better move on to your next shot nice n quick

Love the repeition and leading lines. This shot's a keeper! I find that the background shots are often more meaningful than the action shots as they speak more broadly about the scene and allow the viewer to find a meaning for themselves.

As the image open on the monitor, I could not understand what it was.
At the end I was so struck by symmetrical beauty.
    Congratulations on a glance.

The lines that lead the eye are great and the receding rows of hurdles give the photo a sense of rhythm. If there could be a single thing to elevate this further it would be for a single hurdle to be knocked down and break the repetition but I'm assuming this was beyond your control.

Only other minor thing is that you could mute the colour of that cone in the top right to avoid it distracting the eye, though it's a very minor thing. Extremely strong shot overall.
