8.4.2010 <balloons & corn> 202/365
Two staples in Iowa during August: tall corn and hot air balloons.
The National Balloon Classic in Indianola has been a great event for more than 40 years, featuring hundreds of balloonists from around the country for mass flights each morning and evening, night glows, concerts and other activities. I got lucky tonight in getting some photos. Got there a little late and when I made it I only saw a couple of balloons in the air. As I was starting to head back home I noticed dozens starting to come up out of a field (apparently they launch from the site of the event, set down at a certain spot, and then return). So I turned down a side road, pulled over, and for the next 45 minutes I had a steady stream of balloons floating above and around me.
I've got several photos I'm processing to post. For my 365 project photo I picked this one simply because it had the most balloons in one frame (I count 14) and I liked how they caught the evening sun while floating above the corn field.
