Collecting sulfur from Kawah Ijen

Kawah Ijen is known for its sulfur mining. These guys climb up to the lip of the crater and then descend into it twice a day. They fill their baskets with sulfur - and the baskets easily weigh 130-150 pounds. The hike UP from the crater is BRUTAL, its slippery and pebbly and these guys make their way slowly but surely. But on the way down... on the way down they're like speed demons and their footing is sure. The baskets bend back and forth across their backs and the bamboo makes this "squeak squeak" noise that you hear from far away. They lapped me on the way down and I just had a camera and camera bag.

(ps the smoke from that sulfur stinks, stings the eyes and burns the lungs)
