Pacific Electric #1257

It's about time I got around to building a street car. This is one of the 'Portland 12s' from the nostalgia laden Los Angeles area Pacific Electric line. The Portland 12s were a group of cars acquired for the PE from Portland, OR when that city was removing its electric street cars. Ironically, today Portland has streetcars while LA does not. These cars differed from the LA version most obviously in the leaded glass upper window sash. This was a major motivator for me to build the car. It uses a lot of the new windows. A lot. Now I too can be nostalgic for a line I never knew with my very own 'Red Car.' I don't have an online version of my reference photo, but when I find one, I'll post it. Lots of PE stuff is online, but the 12s are a bit more scarce.

Wow, someone sure has been busy lately! Nice street car!

Wonderful streetcar. The windows are particularly clever with the upside-down build for a thinner line. As I'm fairly sure those windows only come in regular red I assume it's red and orange rather than dark red and red..

This definately has the right colors and proportions to be instantly recognisable as PE. Only sugguestion would be to build shorter trucks to lower the body closer to the ground. Well that... and make a mini yellow cab along side with Eddie Valiant and Roger Rabbit!

^- I haven't seen Roger Rabbit in a looooong time. I guess it's time again.

gambort - Yes, it's red and orange. The colors played hell with my camera for some reason.

I was thinking more like this one:

That would be pretty fun to reproduce.

Especially all the crap laying around outside. That's really what sells it.
