Rosy Maple Moth (Dryocampa rubicunda )

This inch-long moth showed up in late July on my front door in Mineral Springs, Arkansas. In the space of about 36 hours he morphed from the chartreuse and pink tones to pure white with tiny black spots.

4/24/09 Update: I moved him up to today to celebrate his identification.

Up until today I thought he was a Tiger moth, Spilosoma congrua,

I am pleased to say that 21 months after I shot this picture the record has been set straight by

I still can't explain the color change.
