Pont du Gard (Explored)

© 2010 Martin Sandberg

This is the Pont du Gard, an aqueduct constructed by the romans in the middle of the first century A.D.

It was part of a 50 km long system for bringing water to the town of Nimes. The aqueduct, of which you see the top two tiers, is about 50 meters high.

Also visible is the "new" bridge (1743) that runs along the second tier.
