Research as Art 2018
Seventeen stunning images and the fascinating stories behind them have been revealed as the winners of the 2018 Research as Art competition.

Research as Art is the only competition of its kind, open to researchers from all subjects, and with an emphasis on telling the research story, as well as composing a striking image.

It offers an outlet for researchers’ creativity, revealing the hidden stories and attempts to humanise science and research.

The project also celebrates the diversity, beauty, and impact of research at Swansea University – a top 30 research university.

A record 97 entries were received from researchers across all Colleges of the University.

A distinguished judging panel of senior figures from the Royal Institution, Nature and Research Fortnight magazine selected a total of seventeen winners.

The overall winner is “Crab blood and collaborations”, a microscope image of crab blood, which shows what the researchers describe as “the beauty of the crystalline blood cells and jewel-like parasites”.

The winning entry was submitted by Frances Ratcliffe of Swansea University College of Science.

Along with the overall winner, there were four judges’ awards, two awards for researchers from other institutions, and ten runners-up.

Ymchwil fel Celf 2018

Mae dwy ar bymtheg o ddelweddau syfrdanol a'r straeon tra diddorol y tu hwnt iddynt wedi cael eu datgelu heddiw fel enillwyr cystadleuaeth Ymchwil fel Celf 2018.

Ymchwil fel Celf yw'r unig gystadleuaeth o'i math; mae'n agored i ymchwilwyr o bob pwnc ac mae'r pwyslais ar adrodd hanes yr ymchwil, yn ogystal â chreu llun trawiadol.

Mae'r gystadleuaeth yn cynnig cyfle i ymchwilwyr ddangos eu creadigrwydd, ac mae'n dathlu amrywiaeth, harddwch ac effaith ymchwil ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe - sydd ymysg y 30 prifysgol orau am ymchwil.

Derbyniwyd y nifer uchaf o geisiadau hyd yma, sef 97, gan ymchwilwyr ar draws holl Golegau'r Brifysgol.

Dewiswyd cyfanswm o 17 enillydd gan banel o feirniaid blaenllaw o'r Sefydliad Brenhinol, Nature a chylchgrawn Research Fortnight.

Yr enillydd cyffredinol yw “Crab blood and collaborations”, delwedd ficrosgop o waed cranc, sy'n dangos yr hyn y mae'r ymchwilwyr yn ei ddisgrifio fel "harddwch celloedd gwaed crisialaidd a pharasitiaid gemaidd".

Frances Ratcliffe o Goleg Gwyddoniaeth Prifysgol Abertawe gyflwynodd y cais buddogol.

Yn ogystal â'r enillydd cyffredinol, dyfarnwyd pedair gwobr gan y beirniaid, dwy wobr i ymchwilwyr o sefydliadau eraill ac enwyd deg ymgeisydd teilwng.
