    Not quite a traditional European gold dubloon, but one featuring Rama and Laxman, from the Hindu Tradition on sale at the Gold City in Manama, Bahrain.

    Rama and Laxman are brothers in the Hindu tadition. Both warriors Laxman is said to have slayed thousands of demons and Rama one of the most popular dieties in Hinduism, was a famous ancient king depiste the name Rama meaning dark, back, or darkness. That said, according to their tradition Rama never attacked anyone unless he was provoked and did so in defense, something he did throughout his life.

    With a 1 inch diameter this 24 carat soid gold coin has a current market value of USD$8,000

      Astounding & rare find.

      However, behind this shining piece of gold lies the story of sweat & blood of bonded labourers, indentured by colonial powers and sent almost as slaves to distant lands. This is not the glorious culture that permeated to eastern countries, as one sees in Thailand, Cambodia etc. How did I know this? The words on the coin says Lachhman, as spoken by poor uneducated labourers and not Laxman, as spoken in Sanskrit.

      Wow! I’ve never seen a gold ramatanka before, although I am aware they exist. I collect similar coins but they are in silver. Do you have a picture of the other side of this coin?
