school project, each pupil designed and stitched a square of the quilt
I went to my daughters school to help as a parent helper and the teacher is very interesting in crafts and wanted to do something to enable each child have a try at sewing. we ended up deciding on a square for each child to design and it made sense to make it temporarily into a quilted wall hanging. first they chose a square then i got them to draw a design ( any their choice) onto some iron on fusable backing material , then they chose the materials for their design from a huge bag of scraps. At home ( where it was safer!) I ironed on their designs to their materials and then in small groups I helped them use the needle and thread to stitch their design onto the backing square. We also had a play with sequins and buttons which they also enjoyed. i am so pleased how this is turning out. not quite finished , i need to sit with a few others so they all have a go. i just backed the squares and used poly wadding in them and attached them temporarily so we could display them!
