2012-08-11 Perseid Fireball

On August 11, 2012 in Manning Park, BC, Canada, under the darkest skies I've seen with a camera in hand, I caught a Perseid fireball in a 30 second exposure. Later I noticed that the trail left by it was detectable in several subsequent exposures.

Sadly, the camera was not properly focused, and half the fireball was actually outside the field of view. But it was probably the brightest shooting star I've seen. It lit up the campground, illuminating the trees in the photo that caught it.

In the cropped sequence I tried to enhance the fading trail. It can just barely be seen drifting down in the last couple frames of the sequence 15 minutes after the fireball appeared.
