WWI German Photographic Easter Postcard - "The Heartiest Greetings for Easter" to all my flickr friends!
In this beautiful WWI German Easter photographic postcard, a mother comforts her children's sadness that their father is away fighting in the Great War. Though he cannot be with them, their father reaches out to them in spirit from across the miles as is evidenced by the dream-like soldier's image in the upper left of the photograph.
The small blonde daughter in her Easter frock sits in a white spindled chair, clutching a large decorated egg, and her brother, dressed in a miniture version of a German military uniform, leans against the table as their mother leans over the two. The eyes of all are downcast in sadness.
On a small table, which is covered with an embroidered lace-edged cloth, are scattered exquisitely decorated papier-mâché Easter eggs. A handsome vase filled with springtime pussy willows can be seen behind the eggs. A skillfully painted backdrop provides the ambiance of a warm and loving family home, and a peaceful village, complete with a church with a cross on its steeple can be glimpsed through the "window."
"Die herzlichsten Grüße zum Osterfest," written at the bottom of the card can be translated as "The Heartiest Greetings for Easter."
There is nothing written on the back of the card.
