New vegetable garden

Fence and metal tubs are farm supplies from a local grange. Fencing is galvanized, it's called welded wire. It comes in either a roll or in straight panels, and it was cut to length with bolt cutters.

The tubs are “galvanized stock tanks” -- cattle troughs. JB drilled ¼” holes throughout the bottom of the tubs for drainage and put down filter cloth before filling them with dirt.

What a great idea! The main reason I don't garden is that I hate the knee pain, and this is the perfect way to eliminate that problem. Very nice :)

JB is a sweetheart with a really great eye for design! The man could kick serious ass on Trading Spaces. :)

JB is Martha. Which means he knows how to vacuum, he just doesn't want to...

My mom also uses troughs, which are excellent for lettuce. I'm with you on the no-kneeling-to-pick thing.

But I have to ask - do you have a deer/bunny/wildlife malfeasant problem? That veg garden is locked up like Fort Knox!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Garden Structures and Details, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

The metal gets very hot in the sun and things dry out in those steel tubs....you just have to make sure you water the heck out of stuff in there. It looks great and I have one myself for veggies.

I had problems with things getting to hot in black, wooden and metal containers. A friend suggested that I set a wooding DYI box a couple of inches larger than the tub or container. Fill the space with foam packing peanuts. It worked and kept the containers cooler and they all looked alike.
