Chaffinch in Sunlight

I was pleased to get this male Chaffinch perched in the sun but saddened to see the growth on its leg. Reading up on Chaffinch diseases it seems there are two: Viral Papilloma and something caused by scaly mites. I assume this bird is affected by one of those though it wasn't apparently hindered as it pottered about, feeding and flying around the seed.

This was at Weir Wood Nature Reserve two days ago. A couple of our garden Chaffinches seem to have the same problem but again, they don't seem to be adversely affected by the growth (and extra weight?).
