Cloud ~ Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range
Explore - Highest position #377 August 25, 2009
After seeing a program on PBS TV Cloud-Wild Stallion of the Rockies I decided I wanted to visit the Pryor Mountain Horse Range and see if I could find Cloud, the semi famous wild stallion. I visited the horse range each summer from 2005 - 2008. In 2007 I was lucky enough to stumble upon Cloud and his harem, you can't imagine how thrilled I was. The Pryor Mountain range is on the border of Montana and Wyoming, and is not an easy journey. In a four wheel drive jeep it took me two hours to go the last 20 miles, but well worth every minute.
A little history:
Wild horses still roam freely in the Pryor Mountains outside of Lovell, Wyoming. This herd of horses is very special because of its Colonial Spanish American heritage. This tough little horse, derived from the horses of Portugal and Spain, has been present in this rugged mountain area for nearly 200 years. If lost, the herd cannot be restored; and so its biological viability, together with its history, must be preserved.
