Sun Temple, Modhera

102 Kms from Ahmedabad lies the Sun Temple at Modhera. Built in 1026 AD the temple is dedicated to the Sun God - Surya and is an architectural wonder. Built on the Tropic of Cancer, it is so placed that the first rays of the Sun on equinoxes fall on the image of Surya while lighting up the temple.

This part of the temple (Sabha mandap) has 52 pillars supporting it. Each pillar signifying a week in the year.
