Rock Picking Days

    Newer Older

These photo brings back lots of memories for me. It is a job I did every summer growing up in the Midwest. What is being done is the workers ( usually teenagers ) are looking for rocks in the field. It is usually done in bean and cornfields every spring. When they find a rock they throw it on the wagon. They go up and down the field rows till the entire field is covered section by section. The reason this is being done is that when the combine harvests the crop in fall that a rock does not get into combine and wreck something.

Love the colors. Great story. I had no idea. I'm from WI and I guess I never paid attention. Thank you for that

I love this picture, as I do all of your farm and country pictures. I am a born and raised Texan, and a major country girl, so all these pictures are just so peaceful for me to look at. :) Nice work.

This is interesting... they don't do this in the cane fields. Where do the rocks come from? If they remove them every year?

This brings back memories for me too. But the biggest memory for me isn't rock picking, but walking the beans. Walking the endless rows of soybeans cutting out weeds in the heat of a mid-west summer....
