Beans on Toast!

Once in a while (a very long while), I want beans on toast! I've doctored these with sliced shallots, chili sauce and a good shake of Worcestershire sauce too.

 

And why does Heinz label them as Beanz? I understand the significance of the z at the end of "beanz" but this is just going to lead to an entire generation of children who are unable to spell properly. Minor rant over.

    hahahaha u make beans on toast look very delicious :P oh well..

    i heart baked beans on toast. have you ever had the giant greek beans? much the same preparation, in a tin, but GIANT.

    sometimes, u need baked beans on toast to flush the system...
    yeah, try those Greek-style giant baked beans in tomato sauce... very good as a tapas-style dish. I think the Greeks serve Gigantes beans as mezedes, similar to a tapa.

    avlxyz: I think I've seen them before but never bought them. Are they popular in Australia?

    i wouldn't say they're popular, but u do see them in the "European food" sections in suburbs where there is a substantial Greek population, and you can definitely find them in Greek restaurants and grocery shops.

    Melbourne has the largest Greek population outside of Greece apparently :)

    Beanz Meanz Heinz has been an advertising slogan since the 60's and was regularly parodied, especially by the Goodies in the 1970's. According to this press release they put the Z on the can in 2004.

    They certainly need a bit of help, shallots, chilli and Worcestershire sauce sounds good.

    I love baked beans on toast... nice comfort food. :-) Have you ever tried swirling an egg into the mixture as you cook it? Mum had made it like that once and while nice, it is rather rich so I wouldn't put as much of it on toast :-)
