Golden Fluffo, 1955

Detail from a 1955 magazine advertisement for Procter & Gamble's Golden Fluffo shortening. It was yellow like butter (colored with "wholesome carotene") and gave the baked and fried foods it was used in a more buttery appearance. Mike Wallace (later of "60 Minutes" fame) was the Fluffo spokesman in television commercials. The product would ultimately last for about a decade but would come back under another name, Butter-Flavor Crisco.
