138/100 Lauren Philley
I was fortunate enough to encounter her near one of my favorite photographic backdrops, an old corrugated tin warehouse. For the first time in a while, I lost my nerve and resisted asking her for a portrait. Finally, knowing I would kick myself the rest of the day, I adjusted my camera's settings and walked over. "I absolutely love your ink," I gushed.
"Thank you," she responded as she turned towards me.
"Would you mind if I took a couple of photographs of you?" I asked. As she hesitated, I explained the 100 Strangers project, and gave her one of my cards. We talked a bit and I learned that Lauren was in nursing school and worked in one of the nearby hospital's emergency department. She wanted to become a psych nurse.
Unbelieveable. Once I explained that I was a nurse and where I worked, Lauren agreed to a few street portraits. The first was of the calaveras de azúcar on her shoulder. Then I asked her to remove her sunglasses. Wow! Even without her ink, Lauren's flaming red hair and gorgeous blue eyes would be enough to stop a street photographer in his tracks.
We talked a bit more and I went out on a limb and asked her if she had ever modeled, if she would ever be interested........ Lauren, I hope you like what you see.
Lauren is the 138th stranger in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the 100 Strangers project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.
