It was only after I uploaded David's portrait that I realized I had captured another bearded man in a hat as a stranger. I was certainly David's Balmoral bonnet with the diced band that caught my attention. David told me that the cap was part of the uniform of the 1st Battalion Black Watch. The unit is fondly known as the Ladies from Hell, a name given to them by the German troops who faced them in WWI. David informed me that Scottish troops fought in kilts until 1940, and the Germans apparently thought they were doing battle with women. To this day, "Die Damen aus der Hölle" is a moniker the unit bears proudly.
Tapadh leat David for being stranger number 117 in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the flickr group page.
