Free How-To Video on Grand-Prismatic

Here is another video for you all. This one is a bit different than the others, and I go into more details of everything that went into the shot of the Grand Prismatic Spring, which you can see below. Enjoy. And let me know if you want to see more videos like this in the future!

Daily Photo - The Grand Prismatic

This place is awesome and huge. Want to know how huge? Look at those people standing there on the boardwalk towards the top. Amazing, eh?

Getting this shot (and all my others!) was no cake walk! But I am happy with the way it turned out. One thing you don't see in the video is how dirty I got on the way down the mountain when I decided to take a "short cut". It was a bad idea for both me and my jeans.

Very cool shot, Trey. These shooting tutorials are so helpful, they definitely give us a much better idea of your technique, particularly your use of the histograms to capture the extreme light levels in a scene.

It would be cool if you did a video tutorial of your post processing technique from converting raw files to jpegs, to your photomatix editing, and your photoshop/lucis pro etc touch ups.

I will admit that you do some great work. This isn't one of those pieces.

I like it. It is kind of other worldly. Would also be intersting to see a photo of this with the surrounding areas included.

The scale of this is amazing. I like how you are able to see down into the crater particularly in the upper left corner of the spring. It's cool how it creates a natural prism progression with the land into the water. It is also incredible the amount of detail achieved from the distance you were at, with all that atmosphere between you and the subject. I, too, am curious about the crop. Is there a McDonalds at the top of the wooden walkway?
Anyway, cool image, as always. It's too bad the video camera wasn't rolling with you on the way down. I was looking forward to the StuckinCustoms blooper video.
